Pierce had gotten several chores done before he'd even made breakfast. He was sitting on a small stool in the open area between the barn and the woods. He was just sitting there with his boot heels hooked on the leg's bars. He seemed to be wittling away on a stick, a small pile of shavings on the ground and on his lap.

He was waiting for Xae to come find him in some creepy fashion, sitting on a chair in the middle of a clearing. He knew it too. He didn't think it'd rattle the boy but he wanted to anyway.

When he finished his food, which wasn't long since he ate like a dog, he picked up the plate and fork and walked to the entrance of the barn, spying the wierd old man sitting... in a field. Weird warlock-druid shit, probably. He shrugged and set his plate down gently at the entrance, running a hand through his hair and stifling a yawn as he walked out to meet his mentor.

The older man stayed still, like he hadn't noticed the boy. He just wittled away. He appeared to be making a kind of flute- which was nearly finished. He could feel the judgemental gaze in all honesty. It didn't bother him in the least.

"Good morning." Pier stated, his head tipping to see the item in his own hands better. "Can you use your magic?" He asked. An unprovoked question with a suspicious tone. As if he expected the answer to be yes. He paused to blow shavings out of the small hole in the flute.

Xae blinked in slight surprise at the greeting, dipping his head in a nod. "Hey, Mr. Teacher." He mocked, crossing his arms and standing beside Pier with a wide stance. He raised his eyebrows at the question, one of his faintly pointed ears twitching at the request. "I can. Is that you asking for confirmation or because you want me to demonstrate?" He peered curiously over the mans shoulder, taking in the strange instrument and glancing skeptically at the whittler. "Whatcha makin?" He asked, the smell of raw wood tickling his nose. One plus about Fae ancestry? Advanced senses.

Pierce spared no glance at the young man, especially not after the sarcasm he used so early in the morning. He nearly had it completed other than other touches refining the cuts and holes among other things. Expressing grand patience because he had started the flute a very short time after he'd left breakfast with his.. apprentice.

"Are you certain?" He replied nonchalantly, blowing the shavings off again. He seemed to be bringing a suspicious nature to the conversation with that response. And with good reason.

He continued to preen along the intstrument. "A flute. You know, the thing that whistled." He jabbed verbally at the kid.

Xae narrowed his eyes at his mentor, a skeptical look on his face. "I was, before you asked. Now I might be a little performance shy." He huffed, tempted to try to summon it and prove him wrong. He didn't, however, waiting for the actual command before he just... did it. He gave his mentor a grin at the grumbling, nodding. "I do know, but thanks for trying to enlighten me. Any reason, or... do you just want a flute?" He asked lightly.

Decide if he can or cannot, Pier may or may not have some sneakery)

Pierce's eye may have twitched. Why did he have to be such a pain in the ass. Biting back asking if he purposefully tried to be denser than the town bartender's beard. "Do you want me to look away?" He remarked.

"I like flutes." He set it down on his leg. It was unfinished so he would not be attempting to play it. He wiped the blade off on his pants and sheathed it. Looking up at the boy expectantly.

The side eye that follow his mentors comment was legendary. Xae cleared his throat and gave a huff. "It's not like I'm about to take a piss, jeez. I'm not THAT performance shy." He muttered, reaching a hand out and taking a deep breath before he concentrated on the ground below him. A few yard away, the grass in a small patch began to grow rapidly, twining with other blades at once to form a writhing vine that expanded and reared its head. Xaeden gave a glance to his mentor, expecting... something.

"I would hope not." Pierce quipped, no semblance in pleasure on his face to fit his joking inflection. He waited for something to happen, amused by this need for concentration.
The vine was, well. A vine. "Any closer?" He asked, boredom set in ever so slowly, was he hoping for praise? He squinted, deadpan.

Xae gave an incredulous huff at his mentors lack of... shits given. This usually had people gaping. He tried to hide the small sheen of sweat on his brow, scowling for a moment and turning his hand. The vine exteneded- not insanely quickly, but fast... enough. It wound tightly around the discarded flute and then brought it up, tapping Pierce on the shoulder. It seemed that he was just now realizing how... lame that was.
