San, yes she'll be tested don't worry! I got some really nice additions to my rated braves from capture day- 15 new PPP+/W! LOL I always do 3yos as I'm too impatient to wait. I did get some during capture day but it doesn't give the same buzz lol |
04:41:22 San Oh wow, she is lovely! Test her bravery too! I wonder if she can still have a nice foal that late in the month (that's why I always catch 2 year olds, so I have time to plan for their foals if they are decent) |
04:41:08 I actually finally got my capture 3 PPPs done yesterday after horses died and made some space lol |
04:40:01 Min -HEE Click-
Crikey, another overachiever 🤣 |
04:38:19 Min Typical it only shows up when it's not wanted haha! I'd not be doing this 3x PPP one but I had lots of free captures sitting there. Although now they're all gone and I've got 2/3 so that's irritating |
04:37:13 San Yeah that would have been great! I wish I had gotten that grullo W quest during the capture party |
04:36:31 Min -HEE Click-
Lolly trying for a PPP and got slightly better! Shame I didn't have the grullo xc quest |

04:23:12 San Big gelding quests and everything to do with HEWG shows are an instant skip for me. |
04:17:38 Ru Decided to just forget about them haha |
04:16:50 I have Capture 200, Capture 300, and Geld 300.. lol ugh. |
04:15:48 🎀 Diva for setting free 300 you only get like 5k and couple tokens, with cap at 100 so not worth it |
04:12:24 Ru I'm slowly getting over geld and set free quests. The prizes are meh though. |
04:07:55 San *not ChCh Arabs, but Champagne in general. I do have some ChCh mares - but even with them, if the quest is to breed a PPP ChCh I don't always succeed for a while. |
04:06:40 San The homo Ch is really tricky. Even though I have plenty of ChCh AAs. Luckily next month I got a PEE ChCh boy coming up who will hopefully make things easier |

Matilda’s mother began to wring her hands, when she noticed a messenger coming her way. What could the messenger possibly want with her? She wasn’t important, so she must only get big news. Trying to keep her face unexpressive, she listened to the message. Once the messenger had left, she let her eyes widen and nostrils flared. What was the meaning of this? Why would this noble think it was a good idea? Why Matilda? Had her daughter been doing something improper to catch this man’s attention? She set off towards the party determined to find her. It was dangerous to go in, when she wasn’t working this job, but she needed to talk to her daughter. Her mind ruminated on the sense in this plan. It was totally improper, but they might get farther along in life if they assisted this man. On the other hand everyone could scorn them for seemingly clawing their way up the ladder. They wanted to have everyone’s good will, not just their employer. Another con was that her daughter would have a harder time getting someone to marry her. She already had a man who was sweet on her that the whole family approved of. Why should she potentially give that up? The maid almost jumped when her master asked her to go find someone. “Of course sir. Sorry sir.” Which one was Matilda again? Most of the time those at the party ignored the servants entirely. She wasn’t accustomed to being noticed. It was frightening. Although he had a mask, she could feel the annoyance emanating from him. The servant girl he managed to get a hold of promptly forgot as she struggled to continue to serve. She did keep an eye out for a little while, but was easily distracted by the demands around her. The butler hustled off, annoyed that someone else hadn’t already done this. After he had a few minutes stewing, and he couldn’t find her, he began to wonder why the man wanted Matilda. Has something improper happened? He began to get worried. He was decent at calculating time, and he still hadn’t found her. He bumped into her mother, and his jaw dropped. “What are you doing here dressed like that?” “I’m looking for my daughter Matilda.” “I am as well,” he huffed. “I suppose we can search together.” It didn’t take much longer before they found her. “Mother, what are you doing here?” she asked as she got another tray. “Someone told me that Master Disraeli was going to propose to you.” Her mother hissed at her, trying not to let the butler overhear. “You had better go tell her that she is on the way, or take this tray for her. She hasn’t got much time to lose.” The butler had informed the mother how he had been threatened. When he started moving out of earshot, she continued, “It’s not a real proposal. He wants to distract people, and he’ll set us up nicely if you accept.” “What?” her jaw dropped. “I can’t just marry someone from that set. Everyone will masacre me. I’ll have no friends and be a complete oddity. Why would he do this to me? What does he think he’s playing at? Why did he choose me? Curse the person who had us go on a ride together.” Her voice was raising, and she was obviously distressed. “Come on. You can always say no. I’m sure it would make just as much distracting drama, but he ordered you to come or people are going to start losing jobs, so let’s go!” Her mother grabbed her by the hand and started pulling her in his direction. The butler came huffing behind them with Matilda’s tray. “I finally found her sire. Here she is. Is that all?” He was ready to back away. He preferred not being noticed. "Sorry I took so long to get her." Matilda curtised remembering that her mother said James was in a huff. "Nobody informed me." She was too afraid to continue speaking and add more to the excuse. "How may I be of service to you?" she kept her head down. She looked up from under her lashes, not very surprised at the costume he wore. Could this really be happening? Surely, someone was playing a prank on them? No one would ever propose to a maid like herself!

James blinked a few times. "Did they not explain the situation to you? I am about to propose to you. This proposal is, of course, false. As long as you comply, I will set you and your family in charge of the Tavern in my inheritance. If anyone finds out that the engagement is a hoax and tells my mother, I'm sure you know what comes next." . Yes. They could lose their jobs. Or be demoted to Laundress or a cook. Mother made sure only her best were seen. And that's exactly who he was looking for. Mother. "Matilda, I'd like to thank you in advance. And apologize as well. But I'm truly tired of mother's nagging. It's just until she eases off a bit and then I'll call it off." He told her, grabbing her by the wrist to lead her into the center of the ballroom. The lordlung grabbed a glass of champagne and motioned for the maestro to cease the music. Gently clanging his fork against the glass, he called all the attention to himself. He flashed a winning grin and pulled off the intricate mask he was wearing. His Mother's face went from smiling to frowning open mouthed. His siblings and father simply looked confused at such a sight. What could James possibly be doing? . "Hello, I'd like your full attention!" He smiled once more and hoped that Matilda was smiling as well. "I would like to announce something very important, " he continued, passing off the champagne to the nearest person as he dropped down to one knee, calling mist to his emerald eyes as he looked up at Matilda. "Matilda, my shining star! Please make me the happiest man in the entire kingdom and say you'll be my wife?" He asked her, over doing it... yes. But it must have worked. . All around him, the nobles were gawking, mouth agape. And somewhere he could hear some trays dropping, at least one with glasses and then harsh whispering to get the messes cleaned up before someone slipped and got hurt. James' eyes never once left Matilda, he had to hold the act together. Make it so believable that no one could dare question it. Lovesick man was the goal. How else could a noble be willing to take a maid as his wife? . There was loud rustling somewhere. He assumed it was his mother, pushing her way through the crowd. It was confirmed when he heard her voice saying excuse me and pardon as she walked through. James smiled brighter at Matilda, raising his eyebrows as if to say now or never. He needed that yes to end his whole nightmare.. . (Iittle short, I'm sorry. I am tired lol)

Matilda blinked back at him, sending a silent SOS. What? "So this is what happens when you are singled out." Whoever had sent her with James was going to have a lot to answer for. If Matilda didn't get to them first, James' mother was sure to make a thorough go of it. She wanted to berate him for using her. She wasn't a puppet that he could pull on her strings and she would obey. Okay. Maybe she was, but she wasn't an item to be used and then thrown away. Did anyone in her family agree to this, or were they risking everything, because spoiled James was tired of his mommy? Her mind couldn't keep up with the situation, and she was dragged along. She was relieved that at least he wasn't going to marry her for his little game. Of course she couldn't be certain of that, but people of good standing like James weren't supposed to remarry unless their wife died. She would be much too hard to get rid of. However, she realized that that was no certainty. His little game now showed how much he didn't care about good opinion, and she had no reason to believe he would keep his promises. She had no back up plan. They were at his mercy. As he called for everyone's attention, she kept her gaze firmly on James. She didn’t bother trying to smile, as she thought it was appropriate that a servant girl pulled from obscurity would look nervous in this situation. There was no sense in pretending, and she had no idea how to act like she was happy. He went down on one knee, and she let out a nervous giggle. She couldn't believe the situation she was in. Everyone was startled and surprised, curious, or expressionless as they gazed at her, and she found the whole situation ridiuclous and amusing. She assumed that everyone would think she was a gold digger. She barely refrained from closing her eyes, as she imagined her new reputation. Her fiance would never forgive her. She hoped it wasn’t obvious how much she was beginning to tremble, as she could feel the judgement in their stares. Now that she was committed to this act without her consent, there would be no backing down. She needed James as an ally or his mother would ruin her family. She didn’t doubt it. Not one iota. However, she had decided to believe that James might help them. Unless he planned on running his inheritance by himself, her family would be as good as anyone at running it. She also believed that he didn’t intend to marry her. She had seen the way he didn’t want to settle down. When he raised his eyebrows, she was reminded that he wanted an answer. She tried to get her voice to work, but she only managed an inaudible squeak. She was tempted to give him an annoyed look, and say something like, ‘love, I thought we were going to make a private announcement to your mother first.’ Unfortunately, that wouldn’t curb his mother’s rage. She finally managed to find her voice. “Darling. Yes. Of course. We couldn’t make you unhappy now." She pulled him close and pretended to kiss his cheek, but used the opportunity to speak. "Where is my large expensive ring?" She backed up, and smiled trying to show that she was teasing. If this wasn't real, a ring would be very expensive for a game.

James grinned, pulling out the box to reveal the ring his mother had placed on his night stand two years ago. "You were a bit eager, sweet." He said with a grin, slipping the ring onto her finger. "Lose it or sell it and you'll regret everything," he said through his smile. Those emerald eyes never once losing their charming sparkle. He turned to the crowd that slowly started to applaud for Matilda and James, most of them looking a mix between shocked, angry, and confused. A man in the back was visibly trying to sort out how this had happened by using his fingers to draw lines in the air. . Slowly, the people began to resume their activities. "We met six months ago, we've been seeing eachother for four. Make it up as you go, okay?" He said quietly as his brother and sister in law approached them. Johnathan was beaming at his brother and the sight he and his "fiancé" were. His sister in law looked far more confused. . Johnathan III coughed out a laugh, "Now, all that protesting Mother and her fine ladies was for her?" He asked, it sounding only slightly passive aggressive. Elizabeth hit his arm gently and pushed a smile. "I just mean he could've told us he already had someone in mind. It would have saved us a lot of uncomfortable dinners." He said, plucking a feather off his coat and letting it flutter to the ground. . His wife rolled her eyes and smiled, "Congratulations, hun," She said quickly, pushing her husband across the floor to greet some pompous Duke who had the audacity to bring his mistress along with him while his wife was there as well. Wild. Court was wild these days. . "Excellent performance, time to meet my mother," he grinned, linking their arms to take her over to his mother who was glaring daggers and gripping her cup so tightly it might break. "Back straight, dearest. Chin up." James gave her some final words of advice before they were in hearing range of his dearest darling mummy. "Mother, this is Matilda. I thought it was time you two met. This is the reason I've been so hesitant to marry a noble. I'm sure she will be able to adapt quickly to our lifestyle. You want me happy, right, mum?" He asked, placing a gentle hand over Matilda arm where he had linked them. His Mother's face had slowly turned the shade of a tomato and James had to admit, he was enjoying every last moment of it. . "Ah, sweet child. So you're the one who's stolen my son's heart, hmm?" She said, giving her a look over. He could already see the wheels turning. "I suppose you're one of the maids I had decorate. Lovely job you all did." She said, taking a sip of her champagne from the glass that didn't break. "I guess we'll see you at breakfast tomorrow. You both go on and get settled. I'm about to have your father usher everyone out." She said, clamping her mouth shut as she looked at them. "We will get you some suitable clothes eventually. I won't have you in my house looking like one of the staff if you're to be my newest... daughter. Good night, " She said stiffly, giving her one last glance before walking away just as rigidly.

Matilda shrugged, when he commented on her eagerness. "When you are in my position, it never hurts to have something substantial to tell everyone that you are engaged. I wouldn't lose such a priceless heirloom." Her eyes widened innocently. Really! If he couldn't trust her with a replaceable diamond, why did he think it would be a good idea to trust her to lie. While he was sure to be able to put a negative spin on things, it would be a lot easier to ruin her and prosecute her for losing a diamond. On second thought maybe she didn't want to be in charge of not losing the ring. "Besides, if you don't want to get married it might be easier if everyone doesn't have a big shiny reminder that someone should be married." The applause and lights made her lose focus. Everywhere she looked everyone felt particularly unfamiliar. She looked at James, her brow furrowed slightly. “James,” she patted his arm nervously, hoping he expected her to call him by his first name instead of how she had been addressing him. “What are we supposed to do now? What am I supposed to do?” Make it up as they went? That was not the answer she would have preferred. She leaned back towards his ear. "Please try to do most of the talking, and keep it simple so I can remember." Why had he not tried to prepare her beforehand? They were sure to ask when they had started seeing each other, and how they had managed to keep it secret. Later, their families would probably ask what they saw in the other person. Right. She repeated to herself hoping that she would remember the facts under durress. She had been working here as soon as she had been allowed to get a job. She had been here so long she couldn't remember if it was three years or more. Although she had been working in the house for longer, she was to say they had met six months ago and been seeing each other for four. That wasn't along time, but probably made sense in some nonsensical way. "Why would the dinners have been so uncomfortable?" she felt naive asking the question, or perhaps she wanted to make them feel uncomfortable for saying that. Was it that his mother was so stubborn about him getting married? "Did you know about us, and it was awkward to have other women thrown at my beau, when you knew we were together?" Throw some of the blame somewhere else and it might give them a short reprieve. She noticed the Duke with his mistress and she wondered how that wasn't a bigger deal than her impending marriage to James. She smiled politely at the congratulations. These were James' people. They probably would try to avoid talking to her until they were certain that she would be elevated by marriage. They would probably snub her for the rest of her life unless she managed to hide her backstory. Matilda elbowed James gently in the side, reminding him. "Sweetest! Dear," she drew the words out. "You love me. You were feeling something much stronger than hesitant about marrying some other woman." She shut her mouth studying the interesting colors in James' mother's face. "I didn't steal it. He gave it to me wholeheartedly." She beamed beatifically. She couldn't remember if she was supposed to drive his mother up the wall or not. She had better dial it back a notch, so this powerful woman didn't go for a revenge that James couldn't protect her family from. What if his mother took away his inheritance for the game he was playing? Breaking an engagement was a big deal. "Thank you. We had many beautiful decorations to work with." She smiled cordially. "Thank you again. I'm delighted to be your daughter." She stopped smiling once his mother was out of sight. "What are we doing now?" Would she return to where her family lived or did the Disraelis expect her to sleep in the main house. Would they truly treat her like family or would they try to convince James not to marry her. Perhaps they were waiting for privacy. They were rather insensitive, so she doubted they were trying to spare her feelings. (sorry for taking an eternity) Edited at March 12, 2022 08:16 AM by Candor

James smiled, talking through his teeth, "Darling, simply give them what they want to hear and we'll be fine. Just don't make an outrageous comment about anyone's hat. I might laugh and then we won't be as popular." He sighed as they navigated the room. Yet, the woman had more questions. Why would she be uncomfortable? Why her? Why is the sky blue? It was endless. "I don't think you'll be too uncomfortable unless you don't like dead silence and accusations tossed around just by eyes." He sighed, hoping most of those dinners were over now that he had someone to play the proper role. . He was proud of how well she handled his mother. It was interesting to say the least but she had bought it very much so and then stormed off as her per usual. . Incomplete
