Emmy Carter swung onto Blaze, her chestnut mare, mane whipping in the wind. Dust rose as Graves’ gang rode fast toward the ranch, guns glinting like shards of sunlight. Emmy kicked Blaze’s flanks, hooves thundering like war drums, racing to protect her home. From the edge of town, the sheriff’s posse appeared, surrounding the outlaws. Emmy slid from Blaze’s back, voice steady: “It’s over, Graves.” Blaze pawed the ground, proud and fierce, as Emmy rubbed her mare’s neck.
