Few questions were asked around the table,
and my answers were much a fable.
My grandma asked ''how are you doing?''.
I stared at her through tear flooded eyes, her shape blurry.
"I'm alive.
Still.
So that's terrible."
The table silenced, all of their gazes flicking towards me in concern.
A fork dropped against a plate, creating a clatter.
I excused myself, my voice wavering as I stood and threw the pasta stained paper plate in the trash, walking outside to one of the barns and getting on a four wheeler.
I drove away, not caring where before reaching the creek
My hands didn't grip the brakes, forgetting to as the vehicle sped more and more to the water, eventually ending up on top and sinking into the icy liquid shock.
I went still as I sank lower and lower, my vision flickering as I screamed my last breath, wishing only to be in his arms one more time as everything turned black.
