Tamlen Lannister
294AC, Casterly Rock
He might have only been eight, but Tamlen knew something had gone wrong. The maids that streamed in and out of his mother’s chamber would not look up at him and his father had not yet come out to invite him inside as he had done for all his other siblings.
He sat, hands folded in his lap watching the door open and close as he waited silently. The only noise he could hear was the soft sobbing from his mother. It was a wounded sound, and it made his heart hurt. Mother never cried, she never had a reason to, father made sure of it.
The door opened again and there stood his father, eyes downcast and jaw set tight. Something must be wrong. “Tamlen, go to your lessons.” Was all his father said and he felt himself still, for even his father sounded upset.
“Can I see mother?” He asked cautiously. He wished to see her and check that she was alright, he couldn’t stand the thought of Mother being upset.
“No,” His father glanced behind him, back towards where his mother would be. “Your mother is tired.”
He stood and went to his father, the great lord seemingly looking down at him with a pleading expression. “Do I have a brother or a new sister?” He asked and much to his dismay, his father seemed to catch himself on the doorframe.
“To your lessons Tamlen, please.” Lord Tywin choked out and he took a step back. His eyes were wide, he’d never seen his father this way and that frightened him. His father seemed to notice and placed a shaky hand on top of his head. “I will come speak with you later, alright?”
He nodded and his father’s hand fell from his head as he looked back towards his wife once more. Tamlen took that opportunity to turn and make his way down the hall, leaving his parents to whatever had happened. He knew that whatever it was, it would make him sad, and he wished nothing more than to make his mother smile again.
In that he was like his father and never wished to see the Lady Lannister sad or unhappy.
