I pushed my Dapple Grey mares muzzle away from my pocket, sadly. Life was going all wrong lately, my grades were slipping, my parents were fighting. Some days, when it got really bad, I willed the ground to come up and swallow me whole. The recent death of our dog, Blue, left me feeling raw and emotionless. I felt alone. I didn't really see what was around me, I was like a zombie.

Paradis sniffed down at my pocket again, smelling for mints. She flipped her mane in annoyance, wanting me to understand. She walked round, to our small mounting block, and stood beside it. It dawned on me. I ran over to my mares side, hopping onto her back without even using the block. I clucked to her, and we shot off like a bullet.

With the wind in my hair, I stretched my arms. How could I have ever thought I was alone?
