I wrote this out of boredom a while ago with no particular plot and just a muse. Not my greatest work, but I like it.
Swish. I felt my heart beat faster in my chest, knowing that the noise I had heard wasn't the snow falling over this harsh, cold landscape. Maybe the wind? ..Of a creature? My eyes flitted nervously around my surroundings as I clutched my dark green habit closer to myself. Any beast right now was a problem- I had just lost my sword yesterday fleeing from a bandit raid. I was brought back to my situation when I saw just what I didn't want- The tip of a wing, bony and black as night. My breath caught and I froze for a second, letting my predicament set in. Dragon! It was only a second though, and the next I was running. Over snow-covered logs, past bush and bramble, my habit haplessly floating behind me and catching on sticks.. It concerned me,that was my only warm garment I had, but I had no time to be more careful. I tripped as it caught hopelessly on a branch and I tugged it free, wincing when I heard the ripping noise and saw the hole in the corner. I jumped back up and ran on,gasping for breath. It seemed that I would never outrun my enemy when I saw hope on the horizon: A cave! I picked up my pace again and ran towards it, almost crying with joy. Safety! However, when I reached the cave, I turned out to be horribly wrong.. I ran inside and deeper into the cave, knowing the hole was too small for a huge dragon like that. Down a passage, through a room, more winding passages... Why was this cave so big? They weren't ever this huge naturally. I paused, feeling my skin tingle from the air. Or wasn't the air? I turned around slowly, just in time to see a creature I had never seen before jumping at me. Before I could scream, it was on me... Darkness. I opened my eyes, and saw a warm room, though damp. I let out a sigh of relief. It was just another dream. I even smiled a bit and looked at myself to make sure it was true... Deep scratches from thorns littered my arms, blood seeping out of them. I felt a wave of terror and looked at my habit.. A large tear gaped at the edge. My breath caught as I realized it wasn't a dream,it was real... And there were noises.
