When you feel like it! I breed most of my horses in the beginning of the month purely out of being really excited to see what I get. There will be good studs in the beginning of the month, and then other good studs will go up after the owners are done with them. So - sometimes really good studs show up in the middle or end of the month.

If you breed for ratings, breed at the beginning of the month. It's important for training so your foals will train as much as possible each year. It makes them easier to match when they are breeding age. Plus, the majority of desirable studs are used up within hours of rollover on the 1st. If you breed mostly for fun, for color, for bravery, etc you have a lot more flexibility.
