It's due to their origins as work horses for the most part :) A lot of their crossings came from norman draft horses with native irish horses to created the RID. They also has TB in them in order to have stamina

Thank you! Way back when they were first created they couldn't do jumpers like they can now and such. Nowadays they're good at everything but they used to be work horses that could be reliable and smooth riding horses

So is draught a more lightweight than a standard draft breed? They originate from drafts so is that why they aren't considered a draft breed?

They were bred for farm work and riding horses. Modern day ones aren't true to what they used to be
Snurbs Sport Horses

The primary reason Irish Draught (RID) horses are not classified as traditional "drafts" is that while they are powerful, their conformation was developed for versatility as a riding and general-purpose farm horse, rather than solely for the heavy pulling work that defines true heavy draft breeds like Shires or Belgian here u go peoplee

Draught and draft are different. Draught can be ridden and jumped as well as used to pull. Draft is for pulling. :D

They are not a draft breed

I'm so confused cause draught is the British spelling of draft. Are they really not draft breeds?
Nightfall Dressage

They aren't supposed to have heavy feathering but it's distinctive of the breed to have feathering on their fetlocks
Jericho Stables
08:36:15
Breed standard is to not have feathers...
