Ohh, I love spicy food, I have a good spice tolerance but after a while I'm done with it lol.

Nobody was sheddding all that bad last week. But we are reaching 20 above this week so I imagine I will be pulling my shedding blade out

My shedding blade is well and truly out of hibernation. Id love to do Fudge as well but she wont let me near her with it of course...

Oh it's horrendous, luckily I fully peeled him back in October but his saddle patch is about 6 inches thick at the moment lol. He's out naked today so hopefully he can roll it all off and save me a job later

How much is he moulting at the minute? Minnie's seemingly never ending lol, she looks an absolute state.

Genuinely, the poor sod's girth is like a corset, and I've had to lose the half pad to allow for the winter padding 🤣 Still debating whether I do a last minute cover coat clip before it gets any nicer weatherwise?!

Ted's off the hook until I can figure out whats up with his withers, which means poor Fudge gets to do the baby training instead for a few weeks 🤣🤣

🤣🤣🤣 Nothing like the frantic realisation that you should have started back up in January

The mud has just been awful, this has been my first proper winter at my current yard and it's just SO soggy 🫠

Same here, I booked a fun ride last month and now I've realised we need to get our collective arses in gear and lose the winter weight for it 🤣 Haven't even pointed it at a jump since, last year? If not longer?
Gaelic Gladiacres
09:05:07 Gladius
We started two of our young stock right before we got all the nasty weather, too... with four more on the back burner that were going to get started right after the first two -grimace-
Minerva
09:03:36 Min
Lol same with me and Minnie!! Mud's dried up and Ive got a pleasure ride booked in so she needs to get fit 🤣 Maybe they can start a support group for other "thought theyd retired" ponies 🤣🤣

Don't horses have shoulder brands in America? It's much easier to read those!

Some do and some don't. Horses that are branded are usually ranch horses (Actual working ranch horses) and Mustangs that are adopted out. Some TBs will have brands on them, but that's rare from what I've seen. Most of the horses I've seen that have brands are Quarter Horses and Mustangs.

Racing standardbreds are freeze branded on their neck (or at least used to be its been a while since I worked at the track), but thoroughbreds are lip tatooed. Chips would be nice although I wonder how easy they would be to wipe clear and reprogram. (reads too many dick francis books) :P

I think we have ID'd him!! On the OTTB group I follow, someone mentioned that 3's are flat on top and that those are 2's. I thought the last digit was a 3 but if you look closely, the actual tattoo is rounded on top and the black of his lip just makes it look like a 3. We were correct about the letter I.

Sooooo, he is I22522, Dr. Astair. Born in 2005, 13 Y/O. Never raced, but sold for a pretty penny as a yearling. :D

Looking at his pedigree, you got a really nice horse. An English Triple Crown Winner and American Triple Crown winner on his dam's side. (Nijinsky II and Count Fleet). A little heavy on the Native Dancer and Nashrulla on his dam's side.

Sire side has American Triple Crown winners War Adrimal and Count Fleet. Again a little heavy on Native Dancer and Nashrulla. Also traces back to the great Ribot.

He has some great horses in his blood line. I hope you have a long and happy life with this boy.

Hmm. I wonder why he was never raced when they paid such a substantial amount of money for him. Do you know anything about his history? Was there something like a death in the family of the original owner? I'm wondering if he maybe hurt himself as a baby in the field on in early stages of race training. Any weird scars or stiffness? Might be worth keeping an eye out for that sort of thing as you work him just in case. If there was something, it could easily have healed, especially if he hasn't been doing anything for a while. Judging from your past posts, that is the case, yes? I'm just always a bit worried about that sort of thing, haha. I had the vet check my gelding for soundness the other day despite him never having serious injuries, being low mileage, seeming comfortable during work, and not having been started until he was four.

Oh okay! In Australia all race horses must be branded, Thoroughbreds have shoulder brands and microchips and Standardbreds have neck brands. Also any horses used for showing or that are registered either have to be shoulder branded, microchipped or both depending on registry requirements - even miniatures.
