I want to say he is in his upper teens like 16+ his teeth are pretty worn and he has a pretty good angle to his teeth making me think he is older. But not a pro, lolbut have been ageing horses for awhile now and I dont think he is 10 he is at a hard age to really tell the exact age because his groove is already there, what makes me think he is older is the angle of those teeth, but a good dental float might change that if they have not been kept up.

I'm hoping he's just in need of a float and he's actually 10/11... if the vet who sees him says he's in his upper teens then his previous owner is gonna have a big storm comin' LOL

He definitely needs a float, look for any sharp teeth, any cuts or sores in his mouth, or when hes eating, see if he moves the food over in his mouth and starts chewing weird.

Good luck with him! I had a 10 yr old one and he looked like he was upper teens with the shape his teeth were in but we got them floated and it changed the whole look of his teeth!

Lol sure, meet Kirby. He's supposed to be my ranch horse for my job but I think I'm just gonna resell him in the spring and get something more cut out for the job lol. And this pic was taken the day after he got to me. He's put on weight since (a lil too much actually lol).

He doesn't look bad at all. I think he looks pretty decent and ranch built at least. His teeth are a little ugly though. In my opinion, teeth aren't very trustworthy. It depends on a horse's genetics, early nutrition, habits (like cribbing), and the shape of the mouth how the teeth are going to come out. For example, when my mom raced horses, she fed them to grow up fat and healthy. They lost their caps at around 2 to 3. Someone she knew left his out on pasture for years before bringing them up to train, and they lost their caps around 4 to 5. Some horses are going to have stronger teeth as well that will wear better, and others may have a not quite perfect lineup, like an overbite, that makes them wear funny. And of course, a cribber is going to wear them down badly, though it doesn't look at all like he does that. It all depends on the horse. Getting those teeth worked on will probably do him a world of good. I'm grad you got him away from his previous owner.

Oh, and since it is getting cold, at least where I'm at, I'm curious. Are you going to get him a blanket? I'm sure he would appreciate the extra warmth on cold days. I just got 6 new blankets this year and 2 last year because our 7 to 8 year old blankets are finally wearing out and I needed some smaller ones. My yearlings and weanlings are going to be confused, but the older ones know what's up and most will stand in howling wind and let me put theirs on without wandering because they love having them. He might not need it if he gets super chonk, but I don't know, he might like it.

He's a hardy boy from Minnesota, and I'm on a ranch in Wyoming. He's doing fine without a blanket. I've always blanketed my previous horses (all high maintenance eventing horses who couldn't do without a heavy blanket if it was below freezing), but he's hardy and doing just fine, it's already gotten really cold here LOL. The only horses on this ranch who wear blankets are the fillies when they're about to leave for sale, but just so their coats stay slick. But everything else does fine without one... I think there's just over 300 total on the ranch.

He's a grade QH. I wish I knew his breeding but I'm pretty sure the lady I bought him from blocked me (gotta love people), so I'll never know for sure.
