Here's the horse the OP is talking about. Apparently, he's only started 5 times... not raced 94 times. Maybe wait until his riding evaluation comes in... if he's only sound for trail riding he's not going to be your next barrel horse. |

OTTB's can make really fast barrel/pole horses, once you slow them down a bit to do the turns.

This right here, barrel racing is all about rear end impulsion coming out of one barrel and going to the next one. I would not in my life ever recommend using a horse that has fractured and or broken any bones in their legs for barrel racing.
Also you want a horse with some wither to them you don't want one with mutton withers. Your saddle won't stay in the middle of them. |

I already talked to my vet he said that the gelding should make a full recovery and might be able to run a few barrels. Even my moms horse that hurt her legs on the track recovered and became a barrel horse. :)
