i have a problem child lol. He is a coming 4yo AQHA gelding. Dam is cremello and sire is bay ( has a white ish tail ). My understanding is that buckskin would be most likely? he does have leg barrings and a dorsal strip though? i will be getting him colour tested but does anyone got any ideas?

Dorsal stripes and leg barring aren't entirely out of the question with buckskins, just not as typical. When they are present, they are less defined than with a true dun. I would say your horse is a sooty buckskin! They have more defined countershading, which would explain the presence of some primitive markings on your boy.

He almost looks gray to me or like an insanely chocolate palomino. He was definitely palomino as a baby with possible dun factor that isn't super pronounced, but it would have to be gray or turning chocolate that would change him so extremely. There is gray on his mom's side. She may be a super light gray that blends in with the cremello, and she could have passed that to him.

Rose grey was what came to my mind, but I'm seeing the sooty buskskin too
