I was wondering if any one could help me with figuring out what paint color to use as a base coat for various horse colors. I'm working with acrylic paint on a canvas and I was wondering what colors to layer to get a realistic black, bay or chestnut.

To start with a black make a dark grey. A nickle size about works best. And for chestnuts the lighter the chestnut the more white I add to my mixture, the darker tge more brown I add. To make a chestnut color you need to mix orange and brown, somtimes a little red. I have done both of thise horse colors, I'm not sure about the bay because I have only really done chestnuts and blacks.
