I love hearing stories about people's first horses! What kind of horse was it and share your most vivid memory! I'll start-
My very first horse of my own was an off-the-track quarter horse named Roscoe. He was half-brothers with one of our other horses (Jake), both were bay with perfect stars. He was a birthday present. My most vivid memory of Roscoe was actually the first time I rode him. We got about a mile away from home when he decided it was time to graze, and my 5 year old arms were no match for his strong head... I kicked him rather hard to get his attention, and he sure did take off. Without me. I had to walk all the way back home with a sore bottom, where I was greeted by him standing at the gate, lip curled up like he was laughing at me.

My first horse was a dutch warmblood mare. Her name was Roza but we called her Rosie. She was absolutely crazy. She actually had two whorls on her head if you believe that kind of stuff. No one liked her but me. She was not only my first horse, but she was the first horse I ever jumped on. So my most vivid memory would be jumping for the first time with her. She may have been crazy but I loved her <3 |

My first horse was a pony named Coco, I literally no nothing other than my uncle Huge bought her and let me use her, as well as anyone who was learning to ride. She was a butt, like most mares. I think she was QH but I'm not sure, LOL |

So instead of having one first horse i have two XD i have a quarter cross and a mustang. (I bought them both at the same time and by the same people. My most vivid moment was when the quarter cross trampled me while i was trying to teach her personal space and my mustang reared at me when i was lunging him. They are a pain but are doing so much better |

Ah my first horse was a 16hh fleabitten grey named Sterling Mist.
He was 16 when we bought him. (I was 10)
He was an ex-steeplechaser from New Zealand.
I did my first 3'6 jumper class on him when I was 12. :) I was supposed to be doing the 3ft class, but the approach my trainer told me to take to the first jump didnt pass through the timers and i was eliminated. He entered me in the 3'6 class as an apology. LOL He refused the very first jump, but we were flawless the rest of the class. We took 3rd. :D
He was retired when I got my step up horse when i was 13. :) |

My family had a lot of horses and even way before I was even born, but I have only a few memories of two stallions. Their names were Red Rose and Black Diamond.
I was about 6 years old, but talking to my mum. I found out they were at the family farm for about 4 years before I was even born. Red Rose was a Thoroughbred and he was sold on to one of my uncle's mates.
Black Diamond was also a thoroughbred but he sadly passed away at the age of 19 years old because of a past leg injury that got badly infected.
I was thinking about posting some pictures of them but the pictures are too old and blurry to see them properly.

This is my first horse. Chance is a QH x SH mare. When I bought her she was 17 years old, and quite under weight.

One of my now ex friends had a palomino Appendix QH stallion and I had to have him so I traded Chance for this horse not knowing anything about him except he was in his late teens/early twenties and supposed to be super easy to handle. "Billy" had a traumatic life, I later found out he had been beaten by a previous owner and soon realized that I had bit off more then I could chew. I gave Billy back and ended up buying a young STB mare, she too was a handful, she mowed me down and split open my shin - just another confidence knock. I had seen how Chance was deteriorating rapidly to skin and bones and I fought for months to get her back, by this point I was no longer friends with the lady I had given her to and she made it hard for me. After 12 months of fighting I ended up getting Chance back into my care. The poor old girl looked like crap. Sunken flanks, ewe necked, hips and ribs protruding.

This time it took me 5 months to get her back to looking acceptable. Once I had got her back up to condition, I leased her out to a family with a 13 year old girl who wanted her first horse. They ended up buying her and they still have her to this day ^_^

He really wasn't my horse but my cousin's horse. A black stallion named Tar Pit. He had an attitude with everyone. However with kids he was a sweetheart. He seemed to understand the little ones could be hurt easily. He ended up chasing my cousin's dog across the pasture when the dog went for me for some reason. And I kid you not this horse could have easily passed for any horse that played Black Beauty due to the perfect white markings he had. |

My first horse was a ThoroughbredxQuarter Horse.
I got her at an auction and she was drugged. She didn't look like it but she was. When I first went to bridle her she slammed me against the stall wall and I couldn't breathe. I dropped the bridle and she still wouldn't let me go. Someone who was at the barns had to help me out. When I would go to lead her out for turnout in the arena she was very very pushy. I worked with her a lot and she was the best horse that I could ever ask for. She didn't have a good past so she didn't listen to anyone but me. She only trusted me. She was a very hot-headed horse so I trained her on barrels. But she ended up passing away back in 2010

I've had my first horse since I was six months old. My mom had gone out to look for a show pony for her friend's daughter, and saw a Shetland pony, 2 years old at best, living in a dog kennel. When she asked the owner what he did, she just said that her kids rode him around. As if on cue, four buck naked children had jumped on his back, and started pulling their little brother behind him on a sled. Not knowing what she would do with him, my mom bought "Hollywood", and brought him home. We later renamed him Scooterpie, and our now 16 year old boy is thriving, babysitting for our good friend's 3 retired grand prix jumpers. He has two large air conditioned stalls and 4 acres of paddock to roam through whenever he pleases. My siblings and I all learned to ride on him, and I am now training him in in-hand jumping.
