I've been looking but my only decent one I've found was a yearling for 5k in Oregon but I live in Wisconsin and would have to pay transport. Problem is I'm very into western trail, western pleasure, and ranch riding or rail. I want something papered and the market sucks. Either spend 10k on training overtime for the young ones, 10-15k for started one's or 20-50k for finished horses it's insanity

LeMieux Saddle Pads-Are They Bad? December 28, 2022 01:18 PM

I know this is my third time posting here in like a week (I apologize for the clutter).
Recently I've been wanting to buy a set (saddle pad, bonnet, halter, boots, shirt) from LeMieux but I just heard they don't sit right on the horse's back and cause pressure in the wrong places. I don't know anything about tack, how to fit a saddle pad, etc, so I thought I'd check here because I'm sure there are experts around!
I have been hearing mixed opinions on LeMieux and I think a lot of the positivity is because they're such a hyped up brand by big equestrian influencers so I wanted to check before I bought anything-I don't want my horses to be uncomfortable.
Also, are there any other good brands that have matchy sets?

To get a proper fit, you need to hire a saddle fitter. Buying 'off the shelf', is not the best way to get a saddle, regardless of the company you get it from.

In terms of getting proper fitting tack, then I agree with Pentagram, get a saddle fitter out. In terms of numnahs, I don't go "fancy" so LeMieux is not a brand I have used at all.

As far as LeMieux I don't know if it's good or not but if you are looking for matchy sets other than LeMieux I would recommend honestly some small businesses on Instagram or Etsy because they have some really cute stuff, and you could just get a random shirt at like Walmart that is the same color

To be fair, I don't own any Lemieux but if you're using a normal thickness saddle pad, that should not be dramatically changing the fit of your saddle, just adding some cushion between the saddle and their back. (Obviously, not true for half pads, shims, gels, etc.) Generally I hear good things about Lemieux and I'd be surprised to learn that they would disperse weight differently or worse than a $20 pad from Dover considering they're cut more anatomically.
However - agree with everyone here that you should ideally consult with a saddle fitter or at minimum have your trainer take a look at any new saddle + tack configurations

Thanks so much everyone! I'm not looking to buy a saddle right now because he seems comfortable with the one he has, and I'm only riding him for his owner so it wouldn't be a great idea to drop a ton of money on a fitted saddle xD.
Probably gonna get a set-it's just the one place I heard about them fitting wrong and everywhere else I've checked, everyone seems to have very positive reviews. And if it doesn't work out I can always go back to his old stuff :)

Ive ridden and used Lemiwux saddle pads and sets before, and in my opinion its overpriced and overhyped. Visually they look fine, and the fit is a little weird on the horses back, although I do like to use a back protector for my horse too so maybe that affects it. In my opinion they are so overpriced, especially the sets. I would just buy one from a trusted seller that's prices arent too crazy, etsy can have good things occasionally, and I believe there's a site called matchy matchy or matchy pony, i cant remember, that has really good affordable sets, highly reccomend!

I personally like LeMieux. If your concerned about fit get your saddle fitted, but my pony has sensitive skin and needs a thinner saddle pad so I prefer LeMieux for my pony but some horses I wouldn't use those pads are just depends on the horse

I definitely think I'll go for it. My friends all adore LeMieux so if I end up not liking the fit I'll just hand it all off to one of them lmao.

I own LeMieux saddle pads and breeches, but that's it as nothing else from them is really necessary for the dicipline I do. The saddle pads are nice quality but fit some horses oddly (as most tack does). And the breeches are a little stiff and not super comfortable. I also own a jacket from them and it's super nice. Good quality, does its job. The brand definitely is pricey, though. I'd say definitely try it out and see for yourself :)
