Difference between silverdapple and silverbay foal July 22, 2022 09:41 AM

Hi, I am on the bringe choosing two foals from my stallion (he had 27 this summer so its foal galore all over). I am a noob with foal colors. One of the four I preselected is a silver foal but I wonder if he will be silverdapple or silverbay and hopefully also roan. Is there any tip or trick to tell the colors apart in a silver foal younger than 6 months since silverdapples take some time to reveal their true color? Also silverbays are little less common I never saw a silverbay foal or didnt pay attention to it to tell apart. Also websites dont specify the difference between the varieties of silver in a foal. His father is a blue roan (Ee Rnrn zz, as his mom was a Zz). The foals dam is a silverbay with unknown further color information (not owned by me). I know chance is biggest it will be silverbay by genetics as there is not so much E to back it up to be silverdapple and my stallion produces quite a bit of red based foals in general. Im more looking for a sign to determinate it on the foal itself. All involved are Icelandic horses. :) I also wonder what chances are my blue roan and a blue dun mare producing a light mayby flaxen chestnut as the manes and tail already are lighter (like straw) than first foal shed color (cream orange like). My stallion has a strawberry dun roan father and it looks like it maybe came back though I didnt spot signals of dun. It surprised me to see this result but totally love that foal. A complete copy of my stallion when he was a foal but in another color. Or maybe its grandfather. :) I cant get to add photos, sorry. I maybe try later on another browser.
I will test both foals on their color anyway next year. :)
