I feel like I pay anywhere from 100-200k for a brood. But when I list a mare of equal value there are no takers

But even looking at the brood/straw sign ups they are not super busy. Only a hand full of stables on each thread if that

I was so chuffed to snag Wildside, I know he's kinda fallen to the wayside in general but he's done me good.

It really is. For all breeding LB actually. Can't even get a mare to embryo or brood out for a reasonable price

Because color has become more prominent on the LBs and people go for that rather than the plain looking mediocre ones, Capps :(

Fun groundwork / liberty exercises? May 20, 2025 11:26 AM

Hi there.

My seven year old OTTB and I are taking a year off from showing due to my gelding getting reluctant to work in a bridle. I've been working on finding a bit that he likes, but until then, I've just been trying to make it fun for him.

We've been working on bridleless work, and he's been having a blast. I have run out of groundwork ideas to make it fun for him, so please, if anyone has any, please tell me!

Look into classical dressage and biomechanics! You can play with liberty/groundwork in a way that makes him stronger and sounder (not saying he's unsound, but the way it works to help the horse is INCREDIBLE), teach him the square halt, piaffe, etc., while making it fun and positive for him

Here is a good list for you:
-back up (shaking the rope and asking him to back, once he takes a step back, release the pressure, keep doing this until you just have to wiggle it very gently)
-yielding the hind quarters (moving his hind quarters by using your body language or lunge whip to ask him to move around)
-moving forehand (opposite of quarters)
-leg yield across wall (sending him out perpendicular to the wall, you start by following and asking to yield over, once you are more experienced you stay in place and ask them to yield away without you following their every step, and let the rope out)
-any sort of sketchy looking obstacle is great for confidence, letting them be rewarded for just engaging with it, then rest, then come back and use it as their rest spot until they feel like they are safe to be curious, until they desire to do it themselves without assistance
-spiraling in and out on a circle lungeing
-yielding forehand to you while walking in a small circle
-you can teach liberty follow as well, or target train with a clicker or just your mouth
