If you want a horse to get on with immediately you should buy a broken lets say 5yr old if you're at uni or school you might not have enough time to back him well... |

It amazes me that people dont bother to really even touch these horses! My friend got this 12yr old from a slaughter auction. Never handled before, there was two of them but she couldnt get the other one into the trailer, so they honestly dont know where she it. But. It just amazes me. And good choice. |

I agree totally. A couple years ago, I got 2 horses from a neighbor because they were out of grass and weren't going to buy them any hay over the winter. The 2 year old filly had never been touched by anyone other than me when I would ride one of mg horses down the rode. They were afraid of the 18 year old mare that they used to ride years before. It took me 5 minutes to get a halter on the filly and 2 leading lessons to be confident enough to lead her down the rode. There would have been no way to get her in a trailer. I hopped on the older mare bareback with a halter and rope and she rode off perfect. I really don't understand why 1) they were afraid of the super gentle old mare and why 2) they had never even petted the filly that would come right up to the fence to me. |

I worked for a young Irish rider years ago and she was going from ponies into horses so they were trying out a horse to be her top one for big championships They tried out one who was actually in the Olympics called Cat Balou and he was amazing but they ended up buying one in Switzerland Fast forward 3 months and he competed a few shows and he got worse and worse! I think he only kept one clean round in total! In the end they had to bring him back and get a full refund! Turned out he was doped and rapped before they got there making it look like he could jump Ended up getting this beauty of an Irish mare who was sold out there and she came back, literally was the queen of the yard!! Won lots and shes a broodmare now! I always look for the connection you get with them! You will get a gut feeling straight away! |
