Very true. Trail riding is harder for me now too, used to be we'd cover 20+ miles every weekend and now I have to trailer off property if we want to trail ride. Developers suck

Puck,
mainly so if I get off, or fall, my foot has a bit more protection if something stabs my. But we don't actually get to much to trail ride. sometimes. I'll just go to the pasture and lay on my horse lol, usually have crocs on for that though

Yeah I dont do sports mode for riding, I either kick them off or just ride until they fall off. Like last night I rode bareback and barefoof in a swampy arena. So the splashes were fun

They are so comfortable. I could do a 20km Hike easily in those in summer.

Crocs are good for us on the farm.
Slip them on with your inside fluffy socks still on to go outside and get some wood, feed horses or chickens etc. I can slip them on and off without hands too.

reason i don't like it without sports mode is just because i'm not used to such open shoes, afraid they're gonna fall off xD

The dumbest fall I've ever had was when I was just walking around the arena to warm up with a mare while it was darkish. She spooked at the dark and I slipped off the side.

Every time I go xc schooling I come off at least 1. I normally land on my feet. But my close call for this year, is when my horse ducked his head and shoulder out while stopping, so my body kept going and I ended up back first inside the fence. If he had stopped a little later or sooner I probaly would have hit the fence with my whole back and head. If he had stopped a lot later I would have gone over the fence.
Hmm let me list my fall offs this year in xc schooling.
1. falling of on landing of going down my first training bank
2. ending up inside a fence
3. ducking out shoulder on smallest fence, but very scary log
4. large coupe with log ontop, first time ever jumping that fence together
5. duck out on wedge
6. spooking at a truck cap hidden behind a shed after landing from fence, I was rebalancing when he ducked his shoulder
7. scary coupe, going away from the group
Those are all that I can remeber from this year. The most I have fallen off in xc schooling is 5. 4 at the same fence which was apperently very scary and a very scary log.
My scariest fall ever is when I was on a lesson horse the first day it had been at the farm and was able to be riden. There was a lot going on, and my instructer said I would be fine cantering even though I didn't want to. and so when we got to the openside he bolted and when we got to the group of other horses and riders at the other end of the arena he swirved left, and my body kept going straight right, and so I landed inbetween the brim of my helmet and the fron of my helmet, slicing into my bottom lip as I flipped over my head to land on my back. I blacked out for the time when I hit the ground and landed on my back. I thought I had hurt my back or a couple of ribs because I had really bad pain there. I went to the ED, they only did concusion proticall on me, guess what, no concusion. I don't know how. What made me pissed is they didn't think to check my back and ribs, but I don't think I have any lingering after effects. Oh, that fall happened on like a Wednesday, and I got on and rode another horse that Saturday at the same barn with the other trainer that I rode with.

My most memorable involuntary dismount was actually a bareback slip.... my mare bolted when a truck drove by and I managed to hang on (no bridle, either, which was usually how I rode) until she stopped on a dime and I went flying over her shoulder. Thankfully the grass was tall and thick and I landed on my hip. I was mortified when the truck driver stopped and asked if I needed any help, though.
My mare went on to graze like nothing happened. LOL

My most dangerous fall was probably in a creek crossing that we had crossed a hundred times. I still don't know exactly what happened but I fell and smacked my head on a rock. Came to a few minutes later when my mare nibbled on my hair (thankfully). Just had a mild concussion.

1. My lease horse (who was a total ass the first year I used him) was....to say the least a little on the buck-y side. I asked him from a trot, for a lope and the first thing he did was do a massive crophop, where I ended up sitting almost on the saddlehorn. Before I managed to find my seat again, he lifted off again, sending me into a somersault over his shoulder in which caused my tennis shoe (yes, tennis shoe. For whatever reason I decided not to wear my boots for our session -_-) to go flying what seemed like halfway across the yard. So, here I was, half shoeless chasing after my very guilty QH XD.

2. With the same lease horse during our second year, we were doing a cow clinic. We had just finished our first run and it was strange. I was needing to push him harder than previous clinics and he was acting kind of....I don't know. Not quite lethargic but....dumpy? LOL I don't know how to explain it XD. He kept wanting to stop and was almost being involuntarily lazy. And then, he tried to lay down while I was still in the saddle! So, of course I leap away from him thinking he;s about to roll. However, when I grabbed his reins and made him move his feet, he was back up. I got back on, and then he did it again! Three times he did this and each time I looked a chicken with its head cut off trying to leap away from this goober. I was legitimately scared, I thought he was colicing after that, but what may have caused it, I don't know. My gaming coach and mom and friend's mom ran over, got him untacked and led him outside. I walked him out, gave him Bute-Less. And then he seemed fine. Our best guess was Selenium Deficiency. He was definitely not colicing (tummy sounded normal) and was still alert, not really in pain but breathing pretty heavy. Now, let me go on to say. He doesn't sweat. No matter how hard I would work this horse, he would not sweat. Maybe a little bit clammy, but not at all like the other horses at these clinics or on my equestrian team. I almost think he was overheating and just trying to be rid of me LOL.

Second one wasn't so much funny as it was scary, but it was definitely a different experience XD

I don't really have a funny fall, but once, (I ride western) I lunged a horse , and forgot to tighten the saddle on the horse, I mounted on and the saddle started to slide, and the whole saddle slid off with me. I was both horrified, but couldn't stop laughing

I also got bucked off a mare only taking her at a trot. I fell off, and that was the last time I rode english.

Mine is...I was on a school horse cantering around an outdoor arena in different patterns. We bisected the arena... as we came up on the fence, I was telling him to go one way, but he wanted to go the other. Sure enough, he went one way and I went the other!
I flew off, did a flip in midair and landed on the fencing. Luckily I didn't break my leg but did hit it hard enough to leave a noticeable dent in my calf for some years later.
Never did figure out why that horse did it; even if he was on the correct lead he had a tendency to suddenly swerve to the right when cantering. Best we can figure is he had a bad back and was protecting himself or something.
All of my falls were actually on that horse, to greater or lesser extent due to that swerve. Just none quite as spectacular as that one.

My worst fall was definitely my very first fall.
My favorite man, Whisper. He was a cute little chestnut welsh pony. We were working on straightness after jumps. I would jump a cross rail, halt, turn around, and come back over it. We jumped it once, halted at the far end of the arena. Someone decided it would be a great time to drag a metal gate over the concrete. It made the most horrific screech noise ever. Which sent Whisper FLYING out from under me. My hands somehow got caught in the reins and I was dragged at a full gallop by my hands. Thankfully I was okay, and got back on and finished my lesson. But that was definitely memorable.
