I appreciate the work put into making HEE more mobile-friendly. As a primarily PC player, I agree with the previous comments above. Maybe there should be an option to switch between PC (Old) format, and the mobile-friendly version so everyone is happy. Here is an example (below) of something that doesn't look quite right on the news page on a PC. Everything below "The Daily Scoop" box is off-center and favors the right side of the page. (PC/Google Chrome).
Thanks for all your hard work and I'm looking forward to seeing everything finalized!

There will not be two different versions of the Game. (Old and New). It is not realistic to maintain 2 copies of the code.

Will there be a way for these new updates to be compatible with the "request desktop version" option? As of now im fairly certain the website reacts based on screen size and not device. To check this, I went on my laptop and shrunk a tab down to roughly a quarter of my screen size and the layout automatically changed to the mobile version. I imagine this is why it wouldnt be working on my phone. As someone who plays primarily on mobile this would be frustrating for me as I much prefer the old and pc version of the game . Edit: I have an iphone and use safari if that changes anything or happens to be the issue with that option not working Edited at December 11, 2024 02:49 PM by Willow Grove

I don't usually speak on posts like this, but I'm quite passionate about this particular subject so here we go. All of this should be taken lightly. I do not mean to be rude or abrasive with my comments. I agree with previous comments. As a palette coder who also works on WP it looks like it's trying to match the WP theme with the chatbox inside of the main page, and in order to make everything "mobile friendly" in my opinion it's breaking down the usability of the site and the appeal on desktop. I play the game exclusively on 80% zoom as I like everything small. Even on 80% everything feels very big and in-the-face, especially the navigation. Agree with the other comments about the dropdown menus. I particularly disliked the chatbox in WP for its connection to the main page and was grateful it wasn't like that here. It made coding extremely difficult and actually completely drove me away from it. I've also tried it on mobile to get a feel for it and I can barely use the menus now. The top bar part (where the menu link is) is huge compared to the rest of the links and makes clicking on things much harder. The way it looks on desktop however is no longer as appealing as it was because of the already mentioned new unneeded connection to the main page. I have no way to describe my feelings about this than it feels like the desktop version is being sacrificed to appeal to the mobile player base. It's something that I've seen with a lot of sites I use and I've disliked it every single time, sometimes to the point where it drove me away from the site entirely because of how clunky or unusable the site became on desktop. Here's a link to the poll that lead to this change for readers. The tiny sample size (according to the front page, there are 17,462 "active" players, but active is never described, so I'm not sure how accurate that number is). 402 people responded as of today, which means only about 2.3% of the entire active (according to the front page) player base responded to a poll which lead to this massive change. That left 97.7% of the active player base out. I don't think it was a wise decision to make a huge change to the entire way the website functions when so few people responded like that. Here's a link to a screenshot showing the active player base according to the front page. Even assuming that sample size was enough to make this decision, the majority of who responded were desktop players. 232 (57.7%) were desktop and 170 (42.3%) were mobile of some sort. I think there was a much better way to go about this than dropping a giant overhaul to the website's entire theme and layout based on such a tiny percent of the player base, but I digress. On the other hand, things I did like. I love the chat on mobile. It looks fantastic and makes typing in chat much easier for me personally. The page taking up a lot of space is nice on mobile and makes things easier to see, and that's... Honestly about it. Hopefully my insight helped.

I just tested with inspect and I believe it changes based on the device's width, but I could be mistaken. The site layout changes when I pull the inspect panel over enough for the screen to get thin.

I think youre right, I played with it a bit and the height never effected anything. My laptop can be bent backwards and used as a tablet. When doing so and flipping vertically the layout changed to mobile version.
I would like to add that I agree with basically everything you said above this post aside from chat. I personally prefer to lurk while doing other things rather than open something that takes up the entirety of the screen just to see whats happening. But thats just me lol Edited at December 11, 2024 03:58 PM by Willow Grove

I don't mean to offend, but I also have to admit- I'm not a fan of the new mobile friendly version. . Please take this gently, I do not mean harm... But I don't see how the previous version wasn't mobile friendly. So many people played on phone and weren't complaining, so I don't know if it's worth the time and money to make the change for us. I promise we're content as it is. All the poll told you was that there's lots of us. And that lots of us aren't a fan. . The navi bar, the chatbox, the sizing, etc. and we aren't going to have an option if it's fully implemented. Edited at December 11, 2024 04:47 PM by Versailles

I agree wholeheartedly. I play this game both on my phone and on my laptop and I have NEVER had an issue interacting with it using my phone. I completely agree and also agree with what The Unknown said

People always hate change. You just need to get used to it. In order for the site to grow it needs to be modernized. This isn't the 2000's any longer. Modern websites are mobile responsive and people expect that. The current layout is extremely unfriendly for people signing up on phones. They can't use the tutorial. They sign up and quit because they don't know what to do. I can no longer ignore the usability for mobile users. Edited at December 11, 2024 05:22 PM by Cadence Farms
