I don't, like, understand why'd they would do that (match race) in general. Like, she was just as good as any other racehorse, despite being seen as "less than" in that era. Then again, I don't understand match races in general.

First: Thoroughbreds cannot be caught with dun (Dd, DD). It's been that way for a long time, I thought. This mare is dun, but neither of her parents are. YES the dam is white and theoretically could be hiding the gene, but she is wild lined and SHOULDN'T have the dun gene.
Second: The sire of this dun weirdo is also a genetic oddball in that his color is just plain ol' Bay. Standalone Bay hasn't existed in a while either, usually it's Light Bay, Mahoghany Bay, etc.
What do we do? What has happened? Who/ What/ When/ Where/ Why the usual questions.

The sire is just plain bay because it's a starter horse, it's been that way for a while. The starter horses that are bays don't have a variant like light or blood. The dun foal though, I can't explain that lol. You also linked the foal instead of the dam under the dam link ;)
