That's good and ya and people need to have at least female dogs spayed because their hormones can cause them to have infections and breast cancer. However it's been proven that neutering male dogs does more harm then good. Though of course for intact males you would make sure to keep up with their training to make sure their behavior is in check. Daranyx said: We took our dog to the vet yesterday to recieve her final parvo vaccine. She has had a few and hasn't shown any sign of illness. My dog will not need vaccines for a year now but will be spayed since no one in our area apparently stays or neuters their dogs 😒 not only that but we want our dog to be as healthy and happy as possible. ~Whispering Hallows~ said: Oof, that's extremely dangerous especially now. Parvo cases are on the rise because people are putting other priorities first instead of their animals well being. And I agree Luminescene. Oh btw this is my main account, one of my side accounts is Stormy Castle Equine. Daranyx said: Yea. They haven't actually taken her to the vet in over a year so I dont even think she is up to date on all of her vaccines let alone know how much it will actually cost to breed and pay for all of the puppy vet bills. I have been bringing it up to my mom that we need to call or write an anonymous email or something.
Luminescence said: I consider animal neglect/abuse under the same category as child abuse and neglect. Its really sad, because often the animal or child will put up with it because they want to be loved, or its all they know. And if they do tell someone, they often get ignored, and if they try to stop it themselves, it often becomes worse. I think the best thing to do would be to call someone about it. An anonymous email/phone call sounds like a good idea. I really hope this dog is removed from this awful situation :(

Hey everyone! it has been forever since I have updated this forum thread BUT I have recently spoken to my neighbor two doors down and here is the latest news. After my neighbors got a new male GSD puppy, Bjorn, they continued to try and breed their female GSD, Bree, with the neighbor's long haired GSD, Leroy, two doors down. Leroy is literally the largest GSD I have ever seen in my life. His owners honestly trained him right and started him properly by socializing him early, taking him to proper vets, and even planned on getting him neutured but I did not know they had no intentions of breeding him until talking with his owner today. She said that Leroy was her baby and she would never want anything to ever happen to them. After speaking with our neighbors (Bree's owners) - before they got their new puppy (Bjorn) - she said they had convinced her that if they bred the dogs, she could have a puppy from the litter of her choosing and that it would be good for Bree to be bred because if she was bred, she would be less aggressive after the puppies were born and sold because she would get that "motherly instinct" out of her system. Leroy's owners, not really knowing better, said she was okay to breed Leroy and wouldn't mind having one of those pups because she planned on getting another dog anyways and she figured that Bree's owners would know more about breeding and GSDs because they were the reason she got Leroy, they convinced her GSDs were an excellent breed. After several failed attempts at breeding Leroy and Bree, Leroy's owners decided to purchase mini shepherd puppy instead of waiting for a litter. They also noticed that Leroy was becoming more territorial and this was not at all like him. He was honestly such a good dog before they began trying to breed the dogs. So Leroy's owners just decided to stop trying to breed them, it just wasn't going to happen. Shortly after that, Bree's owners decided to get their new male GSD puppy, Bjorn. Now Bjorn was play mates with Maggie (my dog) for the first little while until he became an absolute terror because while his owners were letting Bree loose with Leroy, they were constantly trying to mate because Leroy still wasn't spayed (which Bree and Bjorn's owner knew) and it still never worked out. So Bjorn began copying those behaviors and as a very young puppy he got into the bad habit of trying to mate with Bree and even began being very aggressive. Finally, after realizing that Leroy was not getting any better and was in fact becoming more territorial to the point that he was biting people that would walk by, they stopped allowing him to run loose in the field we have behind our houses. She instead continued to take him on walks at night in fear of him biting someone. He then began turning on the other dog they have in their house, the mini shepherd, and she has drool all over her back all the time from where he is roughly mouthing her. He is food aggressive and will not let her eat so the dogs are fed separately. It has gotten so bad that Leroy can not be bathed or groomed even by a groomer. When taken to a groomer, Leroy released his anal glands and snarled at the two groomers who couldn't do anything but back up and walk away slowly. They ended up calling his owners to come back and pick him up and even said they should not touch him for a little while because he may turn on them based on his behavior. The owner broke down and said "this is not my dog, i have to do something about it." she does not want him to be put down, she knows what happens to dogs that are like him and she even said it was the biggest mistake to try and breed him. The cost of neutering here is very expensive and with three other pets in the house that need to be spayed/neutered, she is having them done according to which one costs less. Leroy will be next but for now, she is doing what she can. I told her that in the meantime she should consider getting a "reactive dog" label to put on Leroy's leash and harness just so people are aware that he is both reactive and aggressive towards people he does not know. He barks at everything and while she still takes him on long walks and jogs, he is just not improving. Going back to Bree and Bjorn's owners, they moved to another state and of course took the dogs with them. Apparently, they were sick and injured and it was a viscious cycle and when Bree went into heat again, they just couldn't keep the dogs separated. Bjorn bred to Bree when he was only 9 months old. Bree had puppies about 5 weeks ago and gave birth to 7 puppies which were birthed at home in a whelping box they made. Unfortunately, due to their lack of experience, one puppy died. The rest are being given to their respective homes in a few days which is way too young to be separated from their mother. Leroy's owners are so happy for them that they finally got the puppies they wanted but also very concerned that those dogs will be aggressive. They said that after seeing the behavior Leroy was displaying, they did not want more dogs or puppies to turn out like him (aggressive and reactive) and because Bree was originally the aggressive one, they hoped they would choose to not breed her and instead neuter Bjorn as they said they would several months ago. I can not say I am suprised this happened. I feel very bad for Leroy's owner who is incredibly upset and hurt over the situation, she was just uneducated about what was going on and how she was being manipulated. She is doing everything in her power to get Leroy back to the way he was before. Bree will likely never live a happy or healthy life under the care of her current owners and neither will Bjorn. I will say, that I am no longer and was not on speaking terms with Bree and Bjorn's owners after a stunt they pulled shortly before they left. After I was bit by Bree when protecting my dog, they asked me to watch Bjorn while they took Bree and their kids camping. I said sure, it was just one dog and it was for a weekend. Bjorn was still a smaller pup and he was fine when he wasn't with Bree. Bree ended up going into heat and the day they were leaving, I got a text saying Bree would also be staying because she went into heat early. For three days (it was only supposed to be 2), I was covered in dog poop and pee every time I went over there, I had to deal with Bjorn who would literally urinate for 15 minutes (not even kidding, i timed it once because he would not stop) in his cage when I first walked in the door. He would be standing in a lake of his own urine which he would trail through the entire house if i opened the cage door. It was just a mess. Since I would check on them all the time because as large, high energy dogs I didn't want them to be stuck in their cages all day but they also dug holes, opened their back gates to let themselves out, were destructive when in the house alone, and Bree was dripping blood while in heat, it just wasn't possible for me to leave them out all by themselves for an extended period of time. It sucked. It was probably the worst 3 days I have ever experienced with any animals. I just wanted it to end. When they finally got back, I didn't get paid for the days I watched them - normally they would pay me like $10 for a day when just watching Bree which was fine, I didn't care, she was easy when by herself. But this was just too much. I didnt say a word to them other than "I went through a whole roll of paper towls, sorry your trashcan is full. There was a lot of urine." and handed them the key and that was it. We didn't talk after that until they asked to borrow a carpet cleaner because when they were moving, they locked the dogs in one of the carpeted bedrooms and the dogs got scared when the movers came in and they urinated and defecated everywhere.... they didn't give it back but we probably didn't want it back. I am glad they are gone and I really hope those dogs can find some happy ending.

Ok so wild wild things have happened since I last posted. I really thought that would be the last time I posted about these ex-neighbors and my neighbors two doors down but unfortunately not. I am really saddened to say that the large male GSD that lived two doors down is likely going to be euthanized at just two years old. And my ex-neighbors who had the two GSDs ended up breeding their dogs on "accident" and sold all of the puppies (8 total, only 7 lived) at 6 weeks old which is dangerously young based on my research, experience, and knowledge. So I will jump into what has happened. Shortly after my ex-neighbors moved that had the two GSDs (in January), my neighbors two doors down decided to get yet another dog. A female GSD puppy (got her Easter day). That now makes 3 dogs, 2 cats, 4 kids, and 3 adults (that I am aware of) living in a very small home with only a 6x6 foot backyard to be let out in. After talking with that neighbor, we will call her Brenda, we found out that Leroy is too aggresive to walk during the day. He lunges at people who walk by and since he is very large, Brenda can not walk him herself and gets her husband's brother (who lives with them) to walk him. She walks him at 11pm when no one is out so she feels safer and more comfortable about it. She also said she took him to a groomer because he was too big for her to groom herself and he excreted his anal glands before the groomers even started grooming him. The groomers then called her and said they could not groom him and would not groom him because he is too aggressive and tat Brenda should avoid touching him for a little while because he is unpredictable and could turn on her. I told Brenda she should consider taking him to a trainer if she really wanted to keep him, neuter him, or consider getting things like a muzzle (to protect him and others) as well as a reactive dog leash sleeve so people know to stay back if she wanted to walk him earlier in the day. Otherwise, she may want to consider a new, more experienced home for him since he is her first dog. Needless to say she took none of my advice because she "cant afford her animals' vet bills." She then told us about Bree and Bjorn having puppies after the ex-neighbors said they couldn't keep the dogs separated during Bree's heat cycle. Said they had 4 boys and 4 girls (half were blues and half were black and tan) but one of the puppies passed away at birth. Brenda said the pups were being sent to their new homes at 6 weeks old and was oh so excited for this to happen. Which I then explained was bad because puppies typically need longer with their littermates and mothers for early learning and corrective reasons. Going back to Leroy, after having that conversation, Brenda bought a new GSD puppy for her kids for easter. It did not help matters at all. She has no control over her puppy which they named Freya as they just let her out into the big field behind our house to let her run around with the kids. The dogs (all three of them) bark all day. We have allowed Freya to play with our dog since we are aware she is vaccinated and caught up on all her shots. The only problem I have with Freya being outside the fence offleash is that she has no recall and more than half the time no one is watching her so she wanders off sometimes. Yesterday, they let Freya and their other female dog, Siba, out to play with the kids. Both are super friendly (Siba being kind of shy she keeps to herself) and Freya is super curious and wondered off (of course because no one was watching her). They brough those two in about two hours later and then decided that while all of the neighborhood kids were playing out in that field, they would let Leroy out. Needless to say, that ended terribly. He bit a little girl hard enough where it broke the skin and she was bleeding. The kid's father (who is a really cool guy btw, super chill), went and talked to Brenda about it. He said if it happened again to any of his kids, he would report it. He did take photos of the bite. He then asked us (we were also outside) if we saw what happened because Leroy was only out for maybe two minutes before he bit someone. We did not see him bite her but we did explain that he does have a bite history (having bit my brother three times, the little girl once, my ex-neighbors kid got bit in the face, and countless other who just walk by and get bit or their dogs get bit). The father, stunned, said he would likely be reporting his daughter's bite because he knows more about the dog and how dangerous Leroy is. This will likely mean Leroy will be put down as in the area I live, if a dog bites and breaks the skin, if reported, the dog will be put down.

Its all good. I just feel more bad for the animals and kids than anything else. I'm getting ready to move in 2 weeks to go off to Uni but my family will be stuck here for another 6 months or so before they move. They will unfortunately have to witness whatever happens to Leroy and the kids in the neighborhood (if Leroy is let out again which is likely since Brenda obviously doesn't care about the safety of her dog or others).

I can't stand when people get a GSD then don't have it trained. An untrained reactive GSD is a recipe for disaster. All those pups are probably going to turn out the same. Being handed off to people that have done no research on the breed. My GSD is reactive BUT he was professionally trained, so he has an excellent recall. Even with him having a good recall I would never let him offleash anywhere. * I also can't stand when people don't spay/neuter pets. If someone doesn't plan on ethically breeding their dogs then what's the point of leaving them intact?? People like to blame it on not having enough money. That's bullshit, there's clinics that offer highly discounted prices. I've had several animals altered for 60 bucks and under. Now that those dogs were "accidentally" bred it just throws a bunch of unpredictable dogs out there. Unpredictable in the fact there's no way to know of genetic health and tempermant issues. Which are very important things to know when it comes to breeding dogs. * I could go on and on forever about how that whole situation pisses me off. Those dogs are suffering at the cost of the owners negligence.

I know. I am furious with the owners and just feel bad for the dogs (and two cats since apparently Leroy likes to target them now too). I swear to you this is a near exact conversation I had with Bree and Bjorn's owner (before they got Bjorn and before Brenda had any dogs at all): Neighbor: I got Bree when (her husband) was gone as a suprise for him since his old dog, Lady, passed away. Me: oh really? Neighbor: Yea and I saw her as this cute little fluffy puppy with bright blue eyes and thought she was going to stay about that size and then (her husband) came home and wasn't very happy with me that I got Bree. I didn't know she would get that big. I didn't know anything about German Shepherds. But we kept her because we love her. But she is too much for me, I thought about getting rid of her because she pulls so hard on the leash and barks and digs. All I could do was nod and say "huh, well, I would be happy to walk her if you ever would like" (I know well enough how to walk reactive dogs and have had to walk her in the past since she dislocated my neighbors shoulder while she took Bree out to a park nearby and was on facetime with her sister and Bree yanked the leash so I had to walk her all the way home). And then she proceeded to recommend GSDs to yet another inexperienced dog owner, Brenda, who has never owned a dog in her life. And they got Leroy at 6 or 7 weeks old and the day they got him, Brenda was already working with the neighbors on figuring out when they could breed him to Bree. And then it didnt work out and Brees owners just wanted another puppy and to see puppies so they got Bjorn who then bred to Bree and we have a theory that Freya is the puppy of Bjorn and Bree because Brenda had a deal with their owners that if the dogs were ever bred, they would get a puppy. And its one huge mess. I want to scream at them and say "what about animal negligence do you not understand? Do you not see you have issues with one dog? Do you not see he is biting people and reactive and you dont know how to control him because you never did research? You say you can't afford the vet bills with just the two dogs and you got a third? Do you realize they are suffering because of you? Do you not realize that if Leroy bites someone who reports it he can be put down?" . I am so happy to know you are a responsible dog owner. There are so many bad dog owners that give dog owners in general a bad reputation and then those breeds that are considered reactive, who can do really well in knowledgeable homes (rottweilers, GSDs, Malinois, Dobermans, boerbols, etc.) get banned or abused or both because of those people. Its just a viscious cycle and a mess. And I could also go on a long rant about it. These people just make me so mad. I have told my mom before that I would like to talk to Brenda about it to just try and get her to understand but my mom doesn't want the conflict. I've thought about calling the animal control/the adoption center but Leroy would likely be put down. There is just no happy ending in site. I am really concerned and just dont know what to do.

So a little update, I am going to keep this one brief just so I am not typing a novel. . . The neighbors showed my sister and dad photographs of the bite Leroy did to the little girl. The dad just doesnt know what to do. He is very conflicted. His daughter is 8 or 9 years old I believe just so you all are aware. It is a deep puncture wound with severe bruising all around it and scratches beneath it. The scratches were from where his bottom teeth just grazed her leg and the top puncture wound on the back of her leg appears to be from the front canine teeth. From what my dad and sister said, its bad. The neighbors said they have documented it because of how bad it is and just in case they do decide to use them to report it since it is so severe. I mean it hurts his daughter to sit down and play and move in general like she normally does. She is hesitant to go outside even because she is scared. Since "Brenda" didnt see the bite and only saw the blood from the bite according to the girl's father, my dad recommended he go and show the photos to Brenda and make her see the issues with her dog. But the kid's father is leaning towards reporting it.
