We have a client at my work that brings his dog in for nail trims once a month and he regularly asks if we can do a nail trim for him and it's so awkward.

Well none of those are professional options... If it is one person who does it over and over, tell a supervisor. They should take steps to bar the customer for inappropriate conduct. Or you know, tell them that you're not interested and to please back up.

What would you call it, if a guy customer comes too close, leans in a bit, and talks a bit too quiet? Flirting, hitting on, what?

I'm going to keep this short.
.
This is nobody's fault in particular except my own. I've been noticing it for months on end, on many pieces. I just feel like whenever I have any kind of custom order in my shop, even lightly, any and all capability for me to do art just kind of dies. Pieces drop in quality, I lose creativity, or my style struggles with what's requested, and I end up losing motivation to do art altogether afterwards.
.
I've also been having health struggles that further limit my motivation, but there's nothing I can really do about that.
.
Is this where I start simply taking only free reign orders, after my current list is complete? I don't want to deter anybody from asking for art from me. :( I'm just struggling, and I don't know how to fix it other than to eliminate what's causing it.

Take a break, love. When it starts feeling like a job you lose your love for it. Although we (your customers & admierers) will miss you, we will be okay <3
Prioritize yourself! It'll lead to a better future for your art and it's quality, as well as your passion!

It just feels very particular to custom work. I don't get this same reaction when I'm given a subject with crazy patterns to peacefully play with until I'm content, or when I'm doing whatever I want to auction off. And it never used to be this way with semi-custom. It's frustrating.
.
It's why I'm wondering if I just go and do my own thing for a while, and keep away even from semi-customs while I regain my inspiration in that aspect?
.
I guess I'm an artist that just kind of wants to be off in their own little world? I'm not sure.

You could always do only free reign if that's what you need even if that means no custom works. It is much better to enjoy your love for it then put it out by demotivating yourself. Stick to what you enjoy.

Unfortunately it would mean no custom work. It's customs that are killing me, even when I allow them to ask for general things. The most I'd end up allowing would be the customer stating what they dislike, so I can play with whatever else. This would make sure the art is acceptable to them, without restricting me and causing this painful lack of motivation and drop in quality.

Or maybe focus on just auction pieces. You'll have no time requirements, no stress, and you can do them as your motivation flows. Don't worry about a break from custom work, if that's what you need, you should go do that!
You could also dabble in art contest entries when you do decide to start doing customs. I think it'd be a good way to get back into it :)

I agree, please prioritize yourself and your health. You may have orders but you also have a life and that comes first. The right people will understand, those who don't are not important. You could always close your shop (whenever you feel you should) and just do some pre-mades for auction whenever you feel creative. That way, you're not stressing about trying to get art done in a reasonable time frame (FR). Pre-mades are a lot more laid back, nobody knows you're making them therefore you can just work in peace with no stress and no time frames. Always remember that you come first and only you ~ I hope you feel better soon xx

Thank you both for your input, I really appreciate it. My soft little heart is always more focused on others than it is on myself.
.
It's definitely the orders that I'm feeling bad about, and they kept me hesitating on closing my shop to orders. I felt I had motivation to take them, and the capability, and then all of it died in an instant and without warning. I think I'm just too shaky at the moment to comfortably do custom slots.
.
What I think I'll do is make a post offering a free reign slot to current slot holders, with the understanding that I'm looking to do whatever I want (given what they dislike), and with the understanding that due to medical reasons, I cannot promise any specific period of time.

Floresta stated it above, maybe only do auction pieces for a while. I too struggle to find the motivation to complete art orders. Some times it takes me one hour to finish a custom order and others I cancel after trying to bring myself to complete them for up to a month. It has really helped me to be able to freely create art. I took about a 2 month break and then started to feel the urge to art again. I started with auction pieces and then found motivation to do customs again. Your mental health is way more important than creating art pieces for an online game. Your customers will understand that you need time to find your motivation again. Best of luck finding what's best for you <3
