Today I met with the surgeon to discuss my MRI results. We found that my smallest, bottom Vertebrae broke into two pieces and that's why I'm in so much pain. He told me there isn't much he can do except refer me to pain management and another surgeon, who might say the same thing. I'm very upset and hurt. I may always have pain and may have to resort to disability since I cannot work long term like this. I'm hoping the other surgeon will say something different or I find one that will do something. I don't want to hear about another surgeon's ego ever again. Only time will tell, but this isn't how I wanted today to go.

Oh, so sorry, what a horrible prognosis. Have you seen a physio? Any suggestions of seating that helps? Damn nasty thing to have happened. My best wishes and prayer for a recovery.

I'm in physical therapy but it causes extreme pain. All sitting, laying, and standing hurts. I'm going to beg to every surgeon that will listen to please, please attempt surgery. I don't want to be in this kind of pain for the rest of my life. I'm not even 30 yet... ZeroZero said: Oh, so sorry, what a horrible prognosis. Have you seen a physio? I'm sorry you're going through this. It's not the news you wanted to hear and you have every right to be feeling devastated. I'm no surgeon (just an X-ray tech), but I am confused about why he thinks it is inoperable. If you don't kind me asking, is it L5 that broke? Or one of the bones in your sacrum or coccyx?

I believe it's my L5. They never told me the vertebrae. But he doesn't want to do it since "I don't want you to be the first patient for me to operate on with this break" and "I don't want to hurt my ego". Those are EXACT quotes. He doesn't want to do it because he believes it's too small and doesn't want to hurt his rating. (My area/hospital uses a rating system to help patients pick doctors/specialists) Hummingbird Meadows said: I'm sorry you're going through this. I would look into a different surgeon. It sounds like he is not willing to operate on it due to personal reasons, or it doesn't enough personal gain which makes him a jerk.

Thank you. I got a referral to another surgeon and if that one says no, I'll keep trying. I'm determined to get answers. Hummingbird Meadows said: I would look into a different surgeon.
