Wild. I'm not sure I've ever seen nor heard of anyone advocating for coyotes here. They've crossbred with domestic dogs and those packs get larger and larger. Livestock is a big problem here too, you aren't required to have tags or for them to be "in season" here.

We had a couple dens of them on a TB farm I worked for, but they didn't mess with the babies or mommas so we just let them be.

They are pests, and they kill a lot of livestock and true native animals.
But there is also huge support from those who classify them as natives.

They were brought here by humans. They did not evolve here naturally and have contributed to extinction of our native predators. But yeah, they are classified by the Gov as pests(wild Dogs).

Do you all consider Dingoes pests like we consider Coyotes? Like there's no limit on them?

I can only think of 2 venomous snakes near me that are native, which are our biggest concern. We have bobcats and the like but super uncommon, at least in my area, to see any.

I would not handle a venomous snake/animal, not for all the money on earth

They can, in places where there is not much food or if they are crossed with domestic dogs and are more aggressive.
I actually really dislike them and believe they do not belong here at all.

Should I Sell my Snake? October 26, 2024 04:29 PM

Hi everyone! I wanted to reach out to the community for advice on whether or not I should sell my Hognose snake. A lot of people on here are pet owners so I thought some of you might understand my situation and therefore give good advice.

In March, I bought a Hognose snake and took a lot or pride and joy in caring for him. However, since starting school in September I have been very busy and caring for him feels more like a chore than pleasure. I used to take him out and handle him almost everyday, but now I only have time to do that about once a week.

Additionally, when I do handle him, he will try to slither away which makes handling him kind of frustrating.

I have come to realize that I probably want a ball python rather than a Hognose because they tend to be lazy and are happy to relax around your neck. But, I am not willing to get one until I graduate in two years and am more financially stable.

That being said, what should I do with my current snake? As far as snakes go, he is wonderful because I see him roaming his enclosure, he has never refused a meal, or been aggressive, but part of me feels like he is not the right snake for ME because I want one that remain calm and not run away when I handle them. Unfortunately, having both a ball python and my Hognose is not an option due to my foreseeable housing situation.

What should I do?

Hey I feel you on this situation! I had to rehome all five of my snake babies to my mother since starting college due to financial and house reasons and might even be selling my boa due to more financial costs.
My advice is if that snake is something you love and would keep if you could, I would try rehoming to a close family member who wouldn't mind the hognose.
I would like to say from owning both breeds myself, while yes ball pythons can be more easy going they can also turn out aggressive or a intolerant snake(loving nod to my asshole ball Athena).
Ball pythons also cost more to get, feed and properly house.
I always have preferred hognoses for their more cheap care, easy handling and being less likely of a injury risk if they get spooked and bite out of fear.
All can show a tolerance or dislike for being held since all but 1 of my ball pythons will stay still and that's because shes an oldie.
At the end of the day, if your dead set on getting a python go for it, but know that you might not get what you want and will have to spend more then you would on a hognose on everything the entire time its in your care.
I am not bashing or hating, because i have been in your position and currently still kinda is. Life is about decisions and you should do what is best for both yourself and the animal. If you have any questions feel free to PM me!
