I lost my heart horse to colic tonight. Twisted ruptured small intestine no choice but to put him down. It was so sudden I don't know what to do or feel right now he was only 4 and just started his saddle training and was so so perfect. Any tips for how to deal with heartbreak?

Ohhh, that's so tragic! That's a horrendous situation to be in. My deepest sympathy with your loss. I think the immediate response is to feel your feelings - if you want to cry, cry; if you're angry, be angry (not directed at anyone). When your mind has calmed from the extreme emotions, it's possible to bring in memories involving the lost one, remember the happy moments, the small moments that were peaceful. Try to rewrite the folder with your loved one with happy and good memories because brains like to remember all the bad and hurt memories. When your more at peace with the loss, you could have a physical memorial piece - like a lock of hair braided in a pendant or a leather keychain with the halter plate, Sometimes knowing that they are no longer in pain or suffering helps. The healing process is different for everyone and every situration. Remember to take your time and to give yourself grace. Sending love and light

Boulder Creek said: I think the immediate response is to feel your feelings - if you want to cry, cry; if you're angry, be angry (not directed at anyone). I think this is comepletely correct. Wonderful advice as per usual from Boulder, a few months ago I went through a similar ordeal, I am still recovering in my heart. But I know it was for the best, the first few weeks I was really angry and upset, and I couldn't face going back to the stables, but once I did start going back the other horses where like my therapists. When your more at peace with the loss, you could have a physical memorial piece - like a lock of hair braided in a pendant or a leather keychain with the halter plate. This is what I did, it helped me so much with recovering ❤️🩹 Hope things get better for you ❤️❤️
