Lily smiled and slowly drifted off, dreaming of stars and planets. - She woke up when the sun was barely over the horizon. Something had woken her. What was it? She glanced around, and, to her relief, West and Shimmer were still there, fast asleep. Puzzled, Lily quietly stood up and walked to a little pool. She gazed at her reflection and it broke when she dipped her head to drink. |

West didn't do the best job staying up all night, and since he knew he needed to sleep sometime, he fell asleep standing near Shimmer and Lily. As the first rays of dawn cracked the black sky, he woke after Lily's warmth left and the grass started rustling with a slight breeze. West yawned before looking around, perking his ears as he watched Lily go and get a drink from a pond not to far away. Shimmer stayed fast asleep, her white tail folded over her small snout. |

Lily broke her drink when she heard something from up ahead. What was it? Worried, she looked back at West and Shimmer. West was awake, and watching her. "Did you hear something?" She asked, whispering. |

(Let's pretend a little while has passed) - Lily woke up tired. Again. She hadn't been getting very much sleep recently. Maybe because she kept worrying about Shimmer. It was barely morning, the sun peeping over the hill, waking the birds and little foxes on the field. Lily turned her eyes on West, still sleeping, and felt the same wave of joy and love she always felt when she looked at him. Memories washed over her from years past (okay, more like months, I guess), and she closed her eyes. She woke again when Shimmer nudged her with her nose. "What is it?" Lily asked, still groggy from sleep. "Mommy, why is the sun gone?" Lily looked up. Her daughter was right. The sun had disappeared behind a cloud. "It's just a cloud, honey." Lily said, putting her head back down. But no sooner had she done that than a huge boom echoed across the field and rain came down in sheets. |
