Tigress looked at Farnight, puzzled. " How would it be you fault?" She asked. " I'm the one who is supposed to protect the herd. I vowed to lilac I would and now...she's injured. I need to speak with her and Wildfire. I need to tell them it's my fault." Tigress held her head high. She was strong and she was brave, she was courageous and she was kind. And maybe Farnight was right. Maybe Lilac would accept her apology. After all she had listened to Farnight about this meadow. Then feeling bad for Farnight she added, " it's not your fault, you couldn't have known the dangers." Then she trotted off.

ok, I'm back now :) if anyone's on I will continue. Wildfire had heard the convo between Lilac and Sultan. He slowly walked to the edge of the stream. He hoped they didn't think of him terribly. Sultan seemed like a very nice stallion and he hadn't meant to snap at him, he was only on edge, frustrated with himself for not protecting his herd better. What if he let them down like he had with his previous herd. How could he live with himself? He must try harder. They had almost lost Lilac, and he was second in command. He didn't think he was much worthy of a beta, let alone a leader. And Myst, he should have cleared the area of all threats, he should have seen the thornes and hole to warn everyone. And Lilac, he should have heard her calls. Was he failing the only ones he had left? Edited at November 1, 2022 10:05 PM by Painted Hills Ranch

Wildfire heard hoofbeats and quickly stood up. His eyes already adjusted, and he saw the figure of a horse. He quietly slipped closer to the figure to try and recognize the horse in the dwindling twilight, or defend his herd if he couldn't. As he wandered slowly closer, he recognized the bright chestnut. It was Tigress. His breathing slowed, he walked with a little more weight, making light hoofbeats, hoping not to spook her. He whickered softly to her, his ears swiveling for any other sounds. Farnight made his way to the luscious grass fields that drew them two the area in the first place, birds chirping, flowers bright and colourful. "Why did such a blight have to curse us when we had just gotten away from the wolves?" He sighed. "I thought this place was safe, but..." his thoughts trailed away as he reached a secluded hollow on the other side of the field. The grass was less plentiful here, so it was a great place to roll and a giant oak tree gave shade from the scorching heat. Farnight bent his knees, lowering himself to the ground, his bay coat looking dappled from the spots of sunlight left by the tree. Oh, what he wouldn't give to be back by his mother's side. As he rolled, dust stirred up beneath him coating him. Farnight hadn't thought about his mother for a long time, and as he reflected, he remembered her soothing lick, and how she seemed ever-careful. "It's too late to turn back now." With this final thought, he dozed off, one eye open, looking for danger.

Lilac turned her head to see Wildfire, "Hello, I am able to at least trot now!...I smelt the cougars a little whiles ago...we need to leave sooner than later." Lilac looked very serious, the nuzzled him gently and started walking back to the cave. *Okay guys if you were not here, I changed my age to 4, I know it is a bit late :b*

Tigress slowly turned around to stop facing Wildfire. She lifted her head high getting ready for her speech. Inside her heart beat quickly, she didn't want Wildfire to hate her. After talking to him Tigress had realized that the two of them were more alike than she thought they were. They both defended the herd with power and strength. "I had to take a break," She murmmered. " I needed to rest, just for a little bit, and then..." Sadness shimmered in her normally fierce blue eyes. Quickly she corrected herself, she didn't need to show signs of weakness in front of Wildfire. Her eyes blazed, " This is my fault," she stated, taking the blame.

Before Wildfire could respond Lilac interrupted. Sometimes that mare could be so nosy. Tigress wanted to keep their conversation private so she changed the subject. "How were you hurt?" She asked. She wanted to asses the threats to the herd that were in the area. Edited at November 2, 2022 06:35 AM by Flying Chance Stable
