a different mountain lion screeched "Lazarus!" Dixie cried as she pushed her way through the trees towards the noises. the second lept out into an opening, Lazarus right at his tail. Lazarus jumped onto the other's back and scratched him, flipping him over on himself. the dark red blood slid down the light colored lion's coat. he shreiked in pain. the darker lion against the injured lighter lion. Dixie watched in horror as the second lion rushed towards her. she reared up, catching the new lipn right between the eyes with her hoof. she watched in shock as the lion fell to the ground, limp.

West raised his head, his eyes flashing. He heard Dixie cry out. West leaped forward, pushing himself faster as he ran across the plains. He skidded to a halt near Dixie's, huffing air. "Are you okay?" West gasped, looking at the mountain lion on the ground, and Lazarus.

All Dixie could do was nod. She had just killed a mountain lion... Lazarus had a few large scratches and a bite or two, but nothing major. Lazarus nuzzled West then turned and rubbed softly against Dixie

West looked relieved and terrified at the same time. What if Dixie hadn't have been watching? He wasn't there... she could have died! It was a very stupid decision he made to go exercise at the beach... idiotic. West hung his head slightly and sighed. "I'm glad you're okay..."

Dixie stared at the limp figure infront of her hoof. her normally bright eyes were dim with the weight of death. "i killed him... i killed him... i killed him..." she whispered slowly. she quickly looked up at West, a sudden fear in her blue eye and brown eye

West looked over to Dixie. "Hey... it's okay,. He would have killed you... and I would have had to kill him anyway. It's fine, calm down..." West spoke with soothing words. He reached out and gently touched Dixie's shoulder, his eyes sad.

she gulped and glanced down again. when he touched her shoulder, she dropped her head a little, leaning ever so slightly against his touch. she slowly stepped over the dead mountain lion and walked away, her head low to the ground. she had no high-step... almost no step at all... her hooves dragged the ground as she walked. when she couldn't walk anymore, she laid down. she sat for a moment before she longed for the company of a horse. she looked over at West, a silent pleading in her visible eye, the brown one. her blue one was once again covered by her forelock
