I love seeing this progress Versailles. I've never seen this stage of nest building before. I have often seen the young birds around me pulling and tugging on small twigs. They get it out and then you can literally see them think 'now what?'. It must be the strangest of impulses.

Oh I'm sure it's so weird! Can you imagine picking up a foreign object, in our case, if we were wild, probably a blanket, and thinking, "what do I even do with this"?
.
I'm glad you're enjoying it! <3 I'm hoping to get my other birdhouses up in the future, especially when I'm living next to the lake. It'd be fun to get a variety of species!

I've got a couple of videos today, loves! I wanted to share some bird knowledge from my time at the college campus a while back, when I was specializing in these guys for zookeeping <3
.
First is this adorable one: click.
The female brought a feather in! For sure they're nesting, feathers and down are one of the biggest indicators of a nest in bluebirds.
She seemed confused by the static, so it brought a smile to my face. <3
.
The second is this video of a behaviour: click.
If you've ever wondered how they make a dish in the center of their nests on platforms, this is how! :) As she gets more materials in, she'll even start spinning around a little.

Yoinking this to a more visible spot since I accidentally buried it lol

Wow, she was up late building this time!
Can show off the lovely night vision the camera has. It's lightless and won't disturb them at night. :)

Two videos today!
.
This one is of the female almost flipping herself over like a pancake lol (click).
.
And here's one of... well. Another goofy case, only this time she can't reach a stick that's stuck to her lol. Did you know the inside of bluebirds' mouths were yellow? :) (click)

We had a fright today! I'm sure a lot of bird people will recognize that speckled belly and bright yellow beak.
.
For those who do not, this is a European Starling. And while they are beautiful birds and make fascinating sounds while singing, they are unfortunately invasive in the US. Further, they are a MENACE to cavity nesting birds in general. The female bluebird WAS in here right before this time and I watched her attack this starling on sight.
.
My bluebird is OKAY and this starling CANNOT ENTER this birdhouse. But these starlings evict other birds from their homes, and kill the babies if any exist.

Oh no! I'm glad the starling was fought off, what a pest!

It's going to be amazing watching them lay eggs and hatch them out <3 this is such a fun project.

I do have some duck drama I'm sure will interest everybody..... when I'm slightly less tired I'll make a big post!

Me too! My poor bluebirds really don't need to be pestered. I'd like to see three successful clutches raised.
.
Post it! :) I'd love to watch, it's exactly what this thread is all about <3

The bluebirds have been back and building today, I've seen them both! Thankfully I think the starling has screwed off and the bluebirds are happy to keep this house. :)
