Does anyone here feed their cats freeze dried raw? Looking to swap my cat over and I was curious about other peoples experiences with it.
Right now he eats Acana wet with some Orijen kibble between if he needs, but I feel like rehydrated freeze dried raw would be better for him. Im looking at Primal Kibble in the Raw at the moment

They say it's healthier but it also brings more risk with bacterias, especially if they eat bits of it over the day. It was not a succes here, most cats did not like it.
Orijen is a very good brand. I feed Animonda Carny kibble + wet

I would probably store the food in the fridge due to the bacterial concerns and the fact thats its still raw food. Our house gets fairly warm and humid so it feels like a safe bet. I also have my cat a schedule, he just eats when I feed him & doesnt leave bits behind. The health benefits are why I want to switch him, plus his wet foods formula has changed. Theyre making it cheaper; less liver, more kidney and much more chicken (cheap protein). Ive not checked the Orijen kibble, we store that in a separate container and toss the bag. Given theyre sister companies, though, I wouldnt be surprised if thats changing too.
Was it rehydrated or served dry? I have a few sample bags from work that ive given my cat to try and see if he likes and hes enjoyed it. Ive been rehydrating it with warm water but will probably use bone broth in the future. The added flavor should keep him very interested in the food even if he does randomly decide hes not feeling it anymore, I think. . I just looked into that brand you feed and it seems really good! If its sold in the US I may see about trying it with him Edited at December 24, 2025 07:20 AM by Willow Grove

Our cat does really really enjoys it, we refrigerate it and portion it our twice a day. They have wet food, PAtes, dry food, freeze dried, and fresh! You can also talk to a dietition and get meat products froma butcher around you
Heres some other alternatives; Viva raw(our cat loves this aswell its just easier to get it all from one site for us) Rebel Raw (DIdnt love it, but its a good brand) I believe instinct has cat food aswell! When we started I mixed his kibble he was eating, and adding watergoat milk to get him used to the texture!

Ive looked at Open Farms, I just dont like how small their bags are. Theyre definitely on my list though if Primal doesnt work out Do you guys rehydrate the freeze dried raw or feed as is?

I'm not a cat owner currently, but I do work for a holistic pet supplement/nutrition company, freeze dried raw is fantastic! I would personally always suggest to rehydrate, cats generally benefit from the extra hydration, and if you can do bone broth, even better for the skin, joint and gut health benefits. While you're switching over, you might find a probiotic helpful to support his digestion, I can 1000% recommend the Adored Beast range. The most amazing company for pet supplements, I recommend them to pretty much everyone at work!

I recently got a new job at a pet food store and have been learning and reading all the ingredients and I definitely agree that freeze dried raw is great! I will 100% be rehydrating, I know how important it is, especially for cats. If my budget allows ill also be using bone broth to rehydrate, probably open farms as I can easily buy it at my store with a discount :) . Oh ive not heard of that company before, ill have to look into them!

Our boys sensitive so we rehydrate with Natives pet goat milk and bone broth powders (half the scoops and mix them), but for most you can feed as is! Open farms bags are smallish, but ours lasts us 2ish weeks hes a bencoon (Aka Bengal x maine coon) we had raw toppers so we feed less kibbel than most Willow Grove said: Ive looked at Open Farms, I just dont like how small their bags are. Ooh okay, nice! How do they do on it? If you had them on other food previously, did you notice any changes/improvements with them when you swapped? . I just have a standard shorthair, about 11-12lbs Edited at December 24, 2025 05:10 PM by Willow Grove

Honestly, he's became alot less sensitive with his teeth, its helping him gain musculature (we exercise him ontop of this) without dropping weight, hes more entergetic and playful aswell. We were on Viva Raw before hand (which again is amazing he did well on it, but we intially switched bc its easier to order his and the dogs food from the site at once) Willow Grove said: Ooh okay, nice!
