He's a borzoi. I have his mom too, she is 11 years old and had her crazy zoomies times when she was younger, but she was always pretty level headed. Matrix is going to be 8 in September yet still behaves like a pup most of the time. My first zoi was his grand-aunt, who also got pretty serious as soon as she turned 3, but she could get up to some mischief every now and then

Awwww bless him, he's just trying to enrich their lives xD What breed is he? Patterdales are known for being super clever, which is definitely the case with Norm. Paddy must have been stuck in the birth canal for a while I think bless him. He does have his moments but getting stuck somewhere with a little blank stare is his trademark

I am very familiar with the 2 braincells thing! I was always wondering why people claim my breed is stupid while I had only girls. they are very smart, downright cunning. Now I have one male and he's the biggest himbo. In fall he keeps carrying around hedgehogs he finds in the yard, like some sort of world's shittiest rollercoaster!
Minerva
06:16:53 Min
Norm did help me herd 60ish ram lambs every day for a while though so he does have his talents. Actual herding isn't particularly one of them but he tried his best and didn't bite or chase anything so I was happy xD
Minerva
06:13:12 Min
Haha I wish- they're utterly useless xD I was hoping Norm would show an interest in ratting so I could use him on the farm I worked at and in my own paddock, but he wouldn't say boo to a goose. In fairness he did grow up with a hamster so it's sort of understandable. Paddy's a little bit more "kill-y" but he's got 2 functioning braincells on a good day so unless something is presented to him he's useless haha

Welcome, all!

With a little encouragement and a lot of fun, I have decided to create a birding thread dedicated to HEE's members - whether you're new to birding, just wanting to post a photo, advanced at identification, or just wanting a little more bird in your life by seeing others' pictures. :)

But, first thing's first; what's birding?

It's exclusive to wild birds, but it is the hobby involving the watching of those birds. It does NOT have to include the identification of them, which makes it a very welcoming hobby to any experience and all ages!

I'm okay with the occasional domesticated bird photo. Birders love birds of all kinds!

People enjoy birding for a variety of reasons. They sing pretty, they're cute to watch, and have been proven to help keep a cheerful attitude daily. They're basically a free smile creator!

Here's some helpful tips to get you started, if you're new:

- Bird feeders are the primary way to attract birds to your household

- Keep a camera ready! Birds move pretty quickly, especially if you accidentally spook them

- If you're looking to be more involved, you can attach a trail camera near by to your bird feeder

- It is okay to ask for a bird species! Make sure to list a location. No, it does not have to be your exact address. Just a state will do!

- Please don't ever try to pick them up or hand feed them! They're a species that should remain wild.

- If you find an injured bird down in your yard, contact a wildlife rehabber. This is NOT a veterinary thread! If you need assistance keeping them safe overnight, please PM me, don't post in here!

I know some people were excited about the idea of a birding thread, so I'll start it off by posting this handsome dude!
.
IMG-0448.jpgIMG-0447.jpg
.
This is a juvenile Golden Eagle.
The biggest tell that this is a goldie and not a Bald Eagle, is how the feathers go all the way down to his feet, instead of leaving them yellow. Although as a fun fact, Bald Eagles do NOT develop their "bald" head until they are fully grown. They look patchy and spotted, their "ugly" phase, kind of like goldie juveniles like the above.
.
I have had a mated pair of Golden Eagles flying around for a while now. I suspect this is one of their juveniles.
.
I actually took this photo through a telescope of all things. No way in all of heaven and earth you can convince me to approach one of these guys in the wild lol. They compete with Bald Eagles, both with a wingspan of 81-87 inches (yes, 6 FEET).

I will also post this littler one to further help kickstart this thread.
This is a Red-Tailed Hawk.
.
When it saw me through the window it chose to threat display and start screeching, so I could not tell an age or gender. It appears in this photo to be an older juvenile, or a young adult. Capable of taking care of itself, but probably without any offspring as of current.

Thank you! The goldie is definitely one of my most prized spots. They're usually pretty far from human civilization. And especially since he's a juvenile, he's perfect for helping to teach, and a pretty rare catch!
