Overall goals was to guarantee the chance for some day being able to produce a red based baby. Mina is Ee Vhegar is EE so mina genetically is a better option and CAN produce a red foal.. but I like Vhegars training better. But Im also planning on using him too much.. thoughts? Mind you both studs are currently on wk fourteen

Critique? I'm not satisfied with this, but hey, I'm not sure what to do.

Why you're not happy with this, I couldn't guess. I personally think this is fabulous! I guess my recommendation would be to make the back 'bones' stand out a little more whether you make them lighter, add highlights, etc..

EDIT: This is so Sagebrush, sorry I forgot to quote it lmao
Dayumnnn girl! I actually love it! If I were you, I would add more definition to the eye and shade/highlight the bones on the horse so they match the light source and where they are right on the horse's body. The hair looks kind of cotton candy ish (frizzy? Im not sure) so maybe highlight and shadow more of certain strands than the whole mass of mane. I would also make the water a bit murkier and the forest area above it a bit less vinigette-y and add a bit of red lighting/exposure. I also cannot see the tail very well, I had to actually zoom in too see the adorable skeleton stump haha, so some more visibility to that area would be great. These are just nitpicks, I love this piece! Could you PM me the finished product (and maybe possibly where I could buy it if it is for purchase hehe)

Thank you so much Gem and Everflame! I will definitely implement those tips (or some) right now! (Or in the morning, I'm tired XD) Everflame, I can PM you the finished piece after too.

I'd love any kind of critique for this piece including what tier you'd put it in, and how much you would pay :D I'm quite happy with how she turned out and I think I'm continuing to pick up more techniques

So first off that is a very impressive colour change. The while looks really vibrant and realistic. Next time I would improve the intergration between the bay and white. The inside hind leg it looks really smeared and on the body its too crisp. I would look at some RL tobianos and study the way the hair colour transitions.
You have lost a lot of muscle definitnion when you smudged and have then added in what could almost be called cellulitis on the ribcage. I would study the musculature system of the horse. When I place shadows and highlights I always place shadows in muscle creases and highlights on muscle ridges. Learning the anatomy allows you paint in shadows and muscles without relying on the stock. Once confident enough you can change the pose and how it flows. I think going over this and painting the lost definition in the face will make a big difference.
As Caprina said ealier, the flow of the tail and feathers is also letting you down. I would watch some tutorials from Amanda (Fox Haven Farm) and resmudge the tail and add some flow to the feathers. The pose appears to be flowy like the horse is swinging to look back at you but the feathers and tail appear very rigid and stiff contradicting.
When it comes to grounding your piece I would make the shadows a gradient, very dark at the base of your feet and slowly getting lighter as it stretches out. While it isn't accurate I find this works best for long shadows.
What I think will make this image really pop is to add a soft glow effect like I have done down below. You do this by softly outlining the horse in a shade colour picked from the lightest part of the background and then bumped a few tones lighter. Outline your horse where you want the eye to be drawn and where the light will catch and then gaussian blur it at about 30-40% you still want the line to follow the outline of the horse. I think dropped it down to 20% opacity. Then outline the horse, to give realistic aesthically pleasing variation make the thickness vary around the horse. On your horse the thickness of the line is too consistent on the neck and chest and this is a bit jarring for the viewer. Something I would consider for next time.
I'll see if I have time to show you my natural glow effect on JoinMe 1 on 1 in the next couple of days. Overall your art is steadily improving and you should be proud of your efforts!

Would love some critique on this please

I love th faint outline you drew around this <3 But the background doesn't quite match the horse. Try maybe adjusting the contrast of the background, to add a more eye-drawing effect. Right now, the horse doesn't seem like the cenre of attention. Creating a stronger light source and darkening the corners of the image should help.

What I think Kuewi is saying is that there is a stock in the image that isn't allowed on HEE

Thanks a ton Bell and Cap! Your critiques were super helpful!

I will admit that the weird belly shadows are due to me not removing the tack super smoothly, but I'm learning as I go lmao. Thanks a bunch, guys! And Bell, I'd love to watch another JM of yours! 😄

All stock image as can be used on HEE, since Colourize-Stock, Unsplash, and SalsolaStock allows it to be used for anything. Can PM you an explanation if you want.
