Hi friends, I just recently tried photo manipulation for the first time and would like to know what everyone thinks! I do notice some minor technical mistakes that were ignored because I was too tired (lol.) I would love some advice on coat recoloring and manes/tails especially!

Just for context, the head and neck belonged to a bay horse and the body belonged to a grey. They were spliced together and recolored!

I think overall you did really nice with this. I love the color scheme you used, the pose you created is attractive, and I find your mane and tail technique very fitting for your style.

I do see a few things that I think if you worked on could very much improve the overall results in the image.

The first thing i noticed, is that while blended together very well, the head and neck are a bit small for the rest of the body, and the neck ties in unusually high. Ideally the neck should join the body more towards the midpoint of the upper chest. I see you have drawn in a bit of a "y" shaped shadow here. I would of joined the neck at the low point of that y.

The horse also seems to be lacking pastern length and the hoofs are at a slightly unique shape and angle. I understand that most of this was probably drawn on, so a brush up on hoof shape and lower leg anatomy will probably help here.

And the very final thing i noticed is that overall lack of ground shadowing. Horses cast shadows, and the help greatly in the appearence of "grounding" the horse in the image. With such an overcast lighting, you wont have a harsh dark ground shadow, but there would still be a shadow. :)

Overall you're headed in a great direction and the piece ties together well.

Thank you so much for this lovely advice! I definitely see what you're saying!
