How do you guys keep image quality when scaling it down to 500x500? Every time i do this it completely ruins the quality of the horse..

When you choose the resize tool change "interpolation" option to "NoHalo". It should keep most of the quality.

Do you start with a 1000x1000 canvas?

Still haven't figured out how to keep the quality when compressing it only resizing it.

This is what I used to do when using gimp. Now I use photoshop elements 8.

Possibly. Maybe test it out.

You could probably use an online image compressor/resizer to keep quality as well.

Compressor.io barley takes any quality.

is there a way to resize an image and keep quality through a website/ibis paint x?

I know in photoshop you can "Save for Web & Devices" which allows you to set the file size right when you save it so you don't have to bother with compression sites.
