I use a mouse and Gimp 2.10
For the base I take a 3-4 px 0.75 hardness brush with the with fade tapering on. (Make sure it is on reverse.)
For the highlights I take a 1-2 px brush, make sure to keep the highlights in the general direction. (Create a new layer for every highlight.)
After the highlight are done smudge them at a 20% smudge rate with the softest brush. Make sure that you smudge them in the direction that they are going, and don't smudge them too much, if you think 20% is too high then you should decrease it as needed.
The result should be similar to this.

OK! How do I get the tail to be dark? Cuaese right now (im trying it) it is really light. and im using a black color. |

Oh wait it's not fade tapering I use my own brush dynamic with the air brush, I gotta get on my computer and see what my dynamics say. Give me maybe 10-30 minutes. Then I will be back to tell you what I use. |

Okay, so I used the airbrush with the rate at 100, and the flow at 50. For the dynamics you could use fade tapering or you can make your own. If you make your own check Opacity Pressure, Opacity Fade, Size Fade, and Hardness Pressure. I can take a screenshot if wanted. (Fade Tapering looks very similar but its a little lighter.) |
