I nearly lost my windshield once to a piece of 4x4 that some idiot didn't strap down. It caved my entire front hood and shattered the grill. No, I wasn't following close, it was the speed at which it bounded. Lucky it didn't go THROUGH the windshield. Barely missed it.

Technically I've hit someone, they pulled out in front of me though. And then someone on their phone blowing through a 2way stop with my daughter in the car. And 2 really close calls, one almost T-bone and someone pulling out in front again. I've been driving for 5 years
