As of today we have added titles for regular shows. These are earned at random when your horse does well. If your horse earns a 1st or 2nd place they have a small chance of earning a title.

Question about titles, one of my geldings came first in a XC show today. He's level 3 and 6 years old. Wouldn't he have earned either Derby Champion (Levels 3,4,5 Cross Country Horses) or Premier Gelding Champion (Geldings aged 5+ 1st Place)

Culling guide wanted for geldings. April 30, 2019 01:03 PM

Hi, does anyone have one of these in the works or know of one? I train my horses in all disciplines and keep track of training, been doing that for a while but was doing it past week 16. I've just stopped at week 16. I keep geldings with one S and higher but want to see what someone considers good numbers for training.

I use a spreed sheet, keep track of when horses have leveled and in what discipline and show scores for each week.

Another question I have, do horses have a peak point where they stop leveling and gaining stats?

Even if no guides are available if someone has a good gelding they consider as a good example I would love a link to take a look. I've been around long enough to understand what I would be seeing.

A lot of people don't cull geldings. Their training is rarely tracked, and it rarely matters to most people. Horses can reach level 10 in each discipline, and then they cannot train anymore, so they won't get any stats.

Culling guide for geldings: don’t.

Specific culling guide for *dressage* geldings: when they hit lv 10, FR. Their heart is too low to not refuse in j/xc.

XC geldings: dont. Switch to jumping when they lv 10. Then when they lv10 in jumping switch to dressage.

Jumping geldings: don’t. See above.

but i have to add i dont have any geldings that are below PPP, only PPP and above!

500 geldings. How much time do you put into them trying to get them into the shows. Manager only takes care of 200. That leave you 3 hundred you have to do. I have about 150 horses in shows and was wondering if I grow my stables passed the barn manager point how I would take care of the rest of them. Lots of time.

Takes me about 30-45min to enter them all each day its not that long.
I dont go into each horse sepratly i enter them in the barn itself.

LRN is doing it right. I have my level 9 ponies working for the BM, the rest of them I enter by hand. It takes me 45 minutes to enter on the first day of the week I'm entering shows, but it takes less time the rest of the week. I don't use anything below PPP, and I enter ~1300 shows per week.

I usually don't cull my geldings unless that is that they're super weak in hrt (I usually do take a look at them at week 5 of training and expect all traits at least one bar up by then). If they're very weak in hrt, they are much more likely to refuse in CC or SJ earning you less money.
I wouldn't however bother to cull geldings until you have that many that you hit the 1500 shows mark. For me it made more sense to cull the ones with weak hrt and get some who would give me a secure source of income.
I also prefer P or S rated horses for SD as they take a little longer to level up and therefore stay in the money longer (but that's personal preference). For AD I keep PPP and above

Hmmm, I been tracking everyone. Haha... no wonder it takes me so long. I show everything. I know what week horses will level, figuring out how many weeks between leveling to show. I don't use the barn manager. I did for about a week and found most they entered wouldn't come in the money and those I would have entered they didn't and I lost profit all the way around.

But this gives me insight in how to upgrade my show string. Thanks for all the help.

I have such a large SD program and thus large gelding show string that I DO cull. You'll have XC/Jumping geldings that aren't weak in heart, but aren't strong in it, that will still scratch often. Show them dressage and then cull. If they're consistently only landing 6/7th place or worse and then leveling, I cull. Ain't nobody got time for that and it's a waste of ebs. I go through about once a month and cull them to make sure I'm not wasting ebs on any that aren't pulling their weight.
