Silver, no offense, but that's some major snark considering you don't have a single clue about my RL financial situation. I won't go broke, not even close, I promise you that.

Thanks to everyone else for the responses and good advice! I'll definitely take all you've said into consideration, and I'll definitely be doing a lot more research into colors and genetics!

Good ^-^

In response, no. EEE horses aren't the only things worth keeping. When going for ratings than EEE stallions are all that I keep. Some people keep PEE studs but if they produce well its a one time thing because of RF (random factor). I keep PEE combo and EEE mares but I started off by keeping PEP combo mares and above. Some people even keep PPP mares but I'd recommend PEP+.

Its quite common to breed your mares to other player's studs. For example, the owners of the #1 ABLB stud (meaning the best stallion in the game) don't shove all of their mares onto him. The mares have to match the stud and your stock commonly have the same weaknesses. So as much as you want to have your own special line it is wise to use outside studs too. You're line is still special!

If you are starting a color project than any rating is fine. You are striving to get cute horses and not the new #1 ABLB stud/mare. Keep in mind, you can do ratings and color together. You can have separate lines for the two or merge it into one program! For example, I have an EEE boy who's roughly 1of100 color rarity and he's adorable!

Grey, I'll definitely want to use stallions outside my barns! Can you explain color rarity? I have a stallion that's rated ASP, and I like the P in there, but don't like the average at all. His color is 1 of 8. Is that a good thing and something I should keep for color breeding purposes? I also have a horse with a 1 of 8000-something. I assume the lower the number the better? I would love to see the horse you mentioned! :)

There are many ways to play the game and do whatever makes it fun for you but money aside, it is going to take you literal real life years to be competitive in the ratings game if you only breed wilds. I feel like if you intend to be a ratings breeder it's going to get really frustrating really fast and not be fun.

You can start your own lines in a sense from lined horses. My own program focused on PPPs in the beginning. I just tried to breed PPP consistently. Over time E horses started popping up in there, then EE, and then EEE. I have two main lines of my EEE horses, my Matrix horses and my Empire horses. The Matrix horses descend from a single PPP mare and the Empire horses a single PEP mare. Those mares were both lined previously, but I consider *my* lines to begin with them and their descendents.

I dunno, just a cheaper/faster and just as fulfilling way to get into the ratings game. My stable and horses are not the best out there by any means yet but it's getting better every month and even though my beginning horses were lined, I still feel like I've created my own lines.

Edited to add, here are the two mares in case you'd like to look at their foals to see how their ratings evolved over time:

1/8 is pretty good for color. Definition of "good" will vary per person - I personally consider 1/50 pretty good but many others won't agree, for example - but I think pretty much all of us would say 1/8 is really decent for a color ratings horse. You want a lower number for the second number...the 1/8000 horse is a terrible color horse.

Coruscant Farm, I would be perfectly happy breeding PPP horses! I'm not trying to jump to Es anytime in the near future for sure. I want horses that will do well in shows, yes, but I'm mainly interested in breeding beauties for color and patterns. If I can find some PPP horses in the wild to begin that's where I'd like to start. Catching wild horses is an absolute thrill for me. I absolutely love seeing what's going to pop up, all the different colors and patterns that are out there. . lol I'm not worried about rankings so much. I intend to invest money into the game so that every two weeks I can buy game cash and search for good, solid wild horses. Even if it takes me months to build up a good, small herd, so be it, I expected that to be the case anyway.

Someone mentioned the maps here that will allow players to catch good horses and I intend to buy both of those. How many horses can you catch with these maps? I mean, is it one horse per map, or can you catch more than that with one map?

Well, it sounds like my stallion has a really good color, which is a thrill...but I'm not at all thrilled with the average he's got. I don't think I should use him for breeding because of it, in spite of his coat. :*( I'm thinking of gelding him, but keeping him just for his beauty. :)

Thanks so much for the help and advice!

Edit: Thanks for the pictures of your lovelies! I see what you mean about the ratings increasing in the foals! I would be very happy with those results! :)

It's one map per horse capture. I personally don't use maps, I've tried a few times and it didn't result in any better horses than without. Your mileage may vary, though.

I think it just depends on what you are going for regarding the stallion. In most instances I'd agree, if you'd like to keep him geld him and train/show him in jumping as that's his strongest trait. But if you are only intending to breed wilds that P rating could be helpful in getting you E ratings eventually in jumping.

Have you read about single discipline horses at all? That may be a better option for you with wilds now that I think about it. Basically instead of trying to get the highest rating in all three traits you just focus on getting Es in one. So for instance, with your stallion here he could possibly be helpful to you as a single discipline stud in jumping since he's already rated P in that discipline. You'd breed him to other wild mares that have a P or E in jumping, and hope he is strong enough to produce good jumping horses and pass on his color rating.

Sorry if that's rambly or poorly explained, I'm not running on all cylinders yet today (not a morning person!)

No, I hadn't heard about single discipline horses, but I like that idea a lot! Thanks so much for mentioning it! I think that's exactly what I'll go for, colors and doing well in a single discipline! :D

I know what you mean about mornings. I don't even want anyone to talk to me before I've had my first cup of coffee! XD

IÂ’d say start slow and build. But some PEP mares (about 5-10k) apiece. And maybe one or two PEE combos for 25-30k (use auctions!! They are extremely helpful! Adams junior auction is a great place to find some PEE starting stock for new stables.) and then focus on breeding to studs with quality production, rather than nice color. If the foal doesnÂ’t turn out sell or geld if a colt is PPP+.

Then, as they mentioned earlier, show, Show, SHOW! The only really consistent way to get ebs on this game is to show your Gelding army. (Or brood out your mares for several seasons if you donÂ’t have money for the right matches.)

ThatÂ’s what I did anyway.

Edit: Though, as Coruscant said, SD is a lot simpler than Eventing, since you only have to focus on getting horses that are strong in one discipline, and cull anything that is a P or lower in that said discipline.

I get wanting to buy ebs but there is a better way to get more ebs for the same cash outlay. Sell upgrades to other players. When you buy ebs you get 100k for your $9.95. You can sell an upgrade to somebody else for much more. Seems like the average price for a $9.95 premium upgrade right now is 150k but I have sold several for 175k. You can capture many more horses with that difference.

Good luck!
