I've asked about matches in the chat a couple of times (or maybe more than that...) about how many matches stables would be considered appropriate to get desired ratings from offspring (WWW, WW, W, etc). After a certain number of matches/breedings-foals tend to be PPPs.

So, I just wanted to get more opinions on the topic, or just see what works for different stables.

I tend to breed at least 6-7 mares each RO and save the rest of my mares for embryos. But should I lower my matches to 3-4? Maybe even just have a top 2? Just curious.

For me, I notice my ratings tend to drop after 3-4 breedings. So I do my top rated/most expensive breedings first.

Agreed. I never do over 3 - I splurge on the few I do. I create embryos for future years if I have a match I want to do that I can't fit into a season.

I'll add that there can still be an element of luck past the initial matches - this girl was my 7th match this year (and happened after I'd gotten a couple PPP). I do my faves first but I save some good girls for later on, too.

If lowering your breeding count to less than 4 works for you please let me know! I think I am gonna start saving my embryos for after my girls retire. All of my second embryo uses in the same season always end up being PPPs even if they are used with the same sire who - on the first embryo gives me a foal with the expected WWW/EWW rating. I waste a TON of ebs each month on flops and it's hurting my girl LB/ABLB status.

Ooo, congratulations! This happened to me when I bred my first WW Wb. Then, a couple months back, I bred a WW in the middle of the month-threw me all the way off. So, I get it's possible-but hate to waste my mares on PPPs. :(
