Our stove and hot water heater are both gas powered so we still can cook and take a hot shower at least. It's pretty warm right now, 60° outside, so we're not worried about the reptiles too much right now as it's 70 in the house

We have one but we're using it sparingly. My mom literally lives 2 minutes away and has power so if we need anything charged we can go over there

I have only been playing a couple days; but I think I have messed up a lot.
I have bred what I thought were nice; but ultimately this is not the case.
I have tried selling the foals and other horses I bought on a whim; but this is also unsuccessful.
What would be the best strategy here?
Release them all and start again with an actual plan this time?

Yep! Release, then get some geldings and show them and save up :)

I'd pick one breed to focus on to start with. If you want an easier entry you can start with a single discipline program as well, but I saw you already have an EEE X mare which is a great start! When you're picking a stallion for her, look at the Appendix leaderboards and choose the best stallion you can afford.

.

As for geldings, you can pick them up for fairly cheap (between 1-2k). Look for horses PPP+ or horses with an E in at least one discipline. Since you are a small stable, it would be smart to show all your horses and not just the geldings. Hire a barn manager on roll over and use her until you get the hang of showing or else you might spend more money than you make by showing horses that aren't ready.

.

I know it's a lot to take in at first, let me know if you have any questions! I'll send you a couple of my young geldings for free to help you get started. :)

To start again, it would also be a good idea to do some reading before you actually start. There are a couple of great guides in the forum (go to: member help --> guides) concerning showing, breeding, matching etc. There are also some guides about different breeding goals. Most of the players tend to focus on all discipline (AD) but some also breed for a specific discipline (single discipline) or colorful horses or a specific color or single discipline with a specific color etc. I'd first make sure I know what to look for before I'd buy new stock.
I'd definitely advise you to show all horses. You need to train your breeding stock anyway to match them later, so why not show them? Depending on the size of your breeding stock, you might not need any additional geldings (I don't have any, but I'm a single discipline breeder with a small stock so I can't talk).

All I have to say is, you've been playing for a few days. Maybe before starting something serious, you should play around a bit and figure out the game first. That's what I did, I went around buying a bunch of random color horses and realized that I liked this game and wanted to stick with it.
Ask questions, there are tons of people here who would love to help you! There is, in fact, a forum where newer players can find mentors to help guide them around the game. I can help you find that if you'd like!
Experiment a bit, get a feel for random factor (RF), and learn the game rules and ropes. Lucky for you, you joined pretty close to rollover (RO), so you can play around with that a bit, too. Good luck! <3

Thanks for the advice. :)
I have been reading some guides.
Working on shows right now, and love to see the pretty colours. I have quickly fallen in love with this game.

HEE definitely has a magical touch that gets you hooked haha.
I'm a bad example of what to do (I don't show and I make my art really slowly xD). But if you are interested in showing for profit, I recommend talking to Mrs Moo (she's a player). She has given me tons of tips for showing (I've tried to show in the past) and is super friendly.
