Not the worst but for AD not super great either, though I have had some luck with them with random factor. They’d make a good SD if they’re a mare though

we have lots of wild sundews here on our property in Aussie. I love them.

I love the Sundews, although I’m not sure what they would say to our climate.

The carnivorous plant diet varies based on plant. The pings get ground up bloodworms while the sundews just get whatever they can catch, though I'm tempted to get a wingless fruitfly colony for them. Flytraps get small things in their traps or if they happen to catch something. Pitchers are just the garbage disposals

Bugs are the clean up crew.

Plants came from a plant nursery in the states as well as several people off etsy

Hi!! I'm trying to get more color into my lines but I literally know nothing about genetics. I'll post a bunch of questions here, please help if you have answers :)

  • what do parents need to produce apricot foals?
  • what do parents need to produce palomino foals?
  • this girl is brown creme. What does that mean and what can she produce?
  • what is chocolate palomino? is it genetically different from palomino or is it just a phenotype variation?
thank youuu

So apricot is prlprl on a chestnut(red, ee) base.
Palomino is one creme gene on a redt base, so ee CcrC.
Creme an incomplete dominant, so it'll look different depending on whether a horse has one or two dominant genes. CcrC becomes palomino, buckskin, and smokey black on chestnut, bay, and black base coats, respectively.
CcrCcr becomes cremello, perlino, smokey creme on chestnut, bay, and black base coats, respectively.
Ata and AtAt are brown agouti, which turns bay into brown or seal brown. CcrC on seal brown becomes seal brown buckskin, and CcrCcr becomes brown creme, like your girl.
-
Now, pearl is recessive and acts with creme. So Prlprl won't show up on its own, but paired with CcrC you get palomino pearl, buckskin pearl, and smokey black pearl, which look very similar to their PrlPrl CcrCcr counterparts mentioned above.
prlprl acts only on red coats and has no effect on black pigments. Technically, bay is black based but with the agouti modifier, which restricts the black pigment to the legs and ear tips, or black points.
prlprl on a red coat is apricot; if each parent has one prl - Prlprl - there's a 25% chance of getting prlprl, 25% chance of PrlPrl, and 50% chance of Prlprl. Factoring this in with possible E and/or Ccr genes they may have, it's possible to get an apricot from Ee aa Prlprl CcrC x Ee AA Prlprl CC, though the chances are slim.
-
And lastly chocolate palomino is just a phenotype thing, like bay and chestnut variants :)
-
I hope I've covered enough, but I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have!<3

Hi,
In addition to Jesters fabby answer you can check out
Forum, Breeding Discussion, Genetics.
I use these posts all the time.
I have got a bit impatient with my attempts at breeding apricots and got some cream genes mixed in which mask the ee prlprl. Still I think I might get an EEE apricot within the next two months.
The side effects of breeding for apricot are very pretty indeed, which helps!
Best of luck.
