I entered some of my horses in a federation this year but again some levelled up now.

How do you guys avoid this situation? Or do you just enter a bunch and a few level up anyway?

I'd love to avoid this situation but I just never seem to know when a horse will level up and once they levelled, they won't win anything anyway as they're not competitive in that level then.

Sadly you can't avoid it completely. Some horses level sooner than others even if they have the same rating.

I only enter PPP+ horses into federations when they place 10-8th on RO so there's a good chance they'll be in the money and earn points. Sometimes you're out of luck and they level after a week or they stay in their level for the best of the month and earn tons of points.

You could also try and use lower rated horses like SSS and down. They take longer to be competitive but they'll take longer to level up.

I enter almost all my horses into the feds and have usually about 70 in the Fed finals.

If you want to micro manage, I would suggest to enter SSS or low PPP horses into the feds that just leveled up in the middle/end of the previous year and pray that they will not level up before the end of the actual gameyear.
