Apricot Color Breeding July 14, 2018 09:45 AM

I recently captured a PEE apricot dun stallion, and I want to use him to try to breed an EEE apricot, but most of my in house mares have E or Ccr. I know that in order to have an apricot you can't have E or Ccr, but there aren't very many apricot mares I could breed to up for brood, and those that are, are expensive. Are there any coat colors that are ee and CC but not apricot? If there are, then I would love to know! Thanks for taking the time to read. <3

Apricot genes:
ee
prlprl
It gets hidden by cream (Ccr) and also by champagne (Ch) I believe.

So naturally a mare needs to be at least Ee CcrC Prlprl to possibly produce apricot and my starting point would be looking for mares hiding the pearl gene, as this is fairly rare. To make it easier you can only focus on chestnut/red-based (ee) mares.

Cream is useful for showing up Prlprl as the pearl gets expressed but those mares are harder to breed apricots from than 'plain' mares hiding prl.

I'm not sure if I am addressing your question correctly, you can always PM me if not.
