Some of the items in my inventory have the quantity I have then a number in parenthesis next to it. What does that second number mean?

That's the number of them gotten from quests, which can't be sold, gifted, or donated to hidden falls.

Ohhh that makes sense - I wonder why they can't be sold if acquired from quests?
