Best Sires Bravery leader board needs checking July 1, 2024 05:34 AM

Hi,
Can someone check the rules creating the best sires bravery stallion leader board please. The top of the board seems OK.
But further down it becomes very unrealistic.
E.G at number 68 is this lovely TB sub par stallion Woody EWP. None of his 5 or so progeny has been checked for bravery, and even if one of these mares had been World class the foal would never be better than A. So why is he, and rather a lot of other sub par bravery stallions, on the bravery leader board board?

Because its RO and the LBs haven't had time to settle. Horses need to be bred, each stallion needs to have one foal via LC to appear back on the LBs.

Thanks Calafornia.
But should the list therefore only show stallions that have foaled?
Can the list be altered to only display relevant information? It must be an easy criteria to add. Only display stallions with foals aged 1.

The best bravery stud LB is a complete nonsense. I have had stallions that are on the board that are Sub bravery as are all of their offspring.

Thanks for that corroboration. I just came across this stallion, he has statement on his page that he is no. 94 best bravery sire.
But he is sub par and only bred 8 times.
I went to the list at the beginning of the season to see if any new stallions were emerging so I could put up a couple of mares to them. However the list was unhelpful.
It was slow but far better to check by via search horses, stallions for breeding with W bravery, then check their progeny for the ones who have actually produced lots of E foals and some W foals.
So please do check the criteria for this list. I think is needs substantial changes from the other breeding lists. Firstly all sub par and average bravery stallions/mares should be excluded. This should help the calculation be quicker.
Only list relevant good producers, so if the list is shorter with a cut off, e.g. only list if has produced a P or higher foal then that is OK (at the moment there are 100 listed but perhaps there are not yet 100 relevant producers).
The key criteria should be foal bravery rating. The normal ratings for DCJ are very secondary, but good if comparing stallions and mares with similar percentage of E/W/P bravery foals.
I know this may take time. So not looking for an improvement today.
Thanks Eve.

I breed Bravery and yes, you do not look at the bottom of the Bravery leaderboard for good Stallions ! Only the first 20 MAYBE in each Breed LB. Or just the ones that pop in the ABLB. And E and W rated Bravery horses. Not always easy when you breed for AD + Bravery like me.
You pin pointed the right answer, not a lot of good Bravery horses and not a lot of Bravery breeders so the first few days are a complete mess as every stallion that had 5 foals total, 1 in the current year pop in the Bravery LB even if he's Sub.
But that's also true in the early hours for every leaderboard as my PEP-W Bravery Stallion was in the XLB for best Eventing Stallion in the first few hours because I was early breeding him on July 1st. It quickly resolved as more people bred their good stallions. But with Bravery it take a couple more days because it's not as popular.
It's not a issue nor a bug by itself, it would self regulate if more people would join in this wonderful journey of Bravery breeding. ;P

Thanks very much for commenting Alies
From your own statement that all the boards 'are a complete mess' on the first few days.
This does indicate better criteria are needed for the lists.
I wondered why a couple of my mares were not on the mare bravery board, I am confident they would not have produced anything lower than an S, more likely a P or E (with luck another W).

Instead I found at no. 48 a horse that was last bred in April https://horseeden.com/horse.php?id=35131180
Additionally there is a complaint regarding the other leaderbords, logged by Rocky Mtns Paints https://horseeden.com/forums.php?f=49&t=75982

No it doesn't. That's simply how the boards work. During the first few days of breeding, the leaderboards are constantly moving as more horses are bred. Weaker stallions will appear higher up on the leaderboards until the stronger stallions are bred, then the weaker ones will be pushed lower or off of the boards. Bravery also doesn't have a lot of breeders, which means it's more likely to see weaker horses on the boards.

Mare leaderboards work differently than the other leaderboards because they don't reset at the end of the month. This means mares can remain on the boards even if they haven't been bred in months.
