Sorry Dimmed I just saw. Depending on the year can definitely add to the cost of repair. But also it could be worth fixing and then selling based on year and mileage

Hey Dimmed! I would suggest a Mazda CX-70 or CX-90. They're pretty much the same car but the 90 has a 3rd row. They're reliable and Mazda was just ranked the safest car

Ever since we rented one to drive up to Canada in years ago, I have loved them lol. The bucket seats in the middle, tons of room, and the entire floor of the van lifts up in the back to a huge strage compartment. Also a huge trunk

Heya :) I have a few questions regarding single discipline breeding, since I recently started SD D. I'd like multiple opinions if possible, you don't have to answer all of them at once.

1. Is matching / training required for SD?

2. Should you free any horse down week 4 / up none week 3? What culling criteria is necessary?

3. Any tips? <3

I've been doing SD for years. Feel free to message me.
Q: Is matching / training required for SD?

A: Some people like to go to the effort of matching, I personally don't find this necessary. I merely send to top girls to whichever is the top SD boy and so on.

Q: Should you free any horse down week 4 / up none week 3? What culling criteria is necessary?

A: I would most definitely cull any horses down wk4/7. As for wk3s, unless you have such a high amount of boys that you drastically need to cull down numbers, I wouldn't worry about wk3s yet. (Plus I have had many top horses not have wk3s at all)

As for basic culling, I follow the following: immediately cull all P girls and E boys, (I personally don't keep E girls anymore, but when you're starting out they work great as test mares). I also will immediately cull any horses down week 4 or 7, (I don't bother to train any further then that.)

Q: Any tips? <3

A: Be patient, reach out to others for advice and have fun. :)

I'm doing SD combined with color for a couple of months.
1. I match all my horses. I like to think that it gets you going faster. If two horses are both low in one trait it will definitely affect the foal. However I know some SD breeders don't track.
2. I take any horse not up all wk 4, 8 and 11 out of my breeding programm. I also expect them to be up at least one bar week 7. That being said it really depends on where you are with you're breeding stock. If you've just started I'd start by eliminating weaknesses before looking for strengths. I haven't had a mare doing well that was not all up week 4 or 8.
3. I went through the LBs and looked at the studs and mare's training to get an idea what to look for. Also keep an eye on auctions. Sometimes you get SD LB studs for a very decent price and they boost your breeding program a lot. And last but not least: keep the horses you've culled as your show string. This way you don't need to buy geldings and SD isn't nearly as expensive as AD.
