How long is a game year in real life and how many foals can a mare have in 1 year?

Also, if you can only train once a week, feed once a week etc, what are you supposed to do the rest of the time?? (Apologies if this is a silly question but I'm worried that I'm missing a big part of the game!)

Mares can breed once every game year, while stallions can have up to 20 foals a year, if we doesn't count the foals from straws.

What you do after training, feeding etc. is entirely up to you. Most player track the training of their breeding stock, show their horses, making matches for the next year. You can also sign up for RPs, join in clubs or whatever strikes your fancy.
