The Free Range
Scene Two: The Free Range
Roleplay Type: Horses Only

Wild Horse herds roam the wilderness of the Free Range, trying not to be captured or eaten by predators. To the North are the Great Mountains, to the East are the vast Plains and beyond that Desert. To the South is the Jungle, and to the West is the Coastline.

Fox fallowed Firefly as she walked over to the two mare from the large herd. She felt refile that the filly did not provoke the mares but still felt nervous. She spoke to the mares, "I'm Fox. I hope were not bothering you or your herd.". Fox hoped that being diplomatic wold keep them out of trouble, or out of worse trouble.

Firefly being the curious young mare she has always been, saw the two mares making their way down the riverbank. She was kind of nervous and curious at the same time. Just then she seen the reeds moving. What was there? she thought. Then a little filly popped her head out. "What do you think they want?" She turned and asked Fox and Splash. "Do you think they are coming to make us leave? And there is a filly over there do you think she wants to come over to us too?" Firefly was full of questions today. The mares just kept getting closer and closer to the small makeshift herd of young horses. "I think I'm gonna go greet them." She said leaving her small circle of friends to confront the two mares. She made her way to the mare who were walking up to her. "Hello," she said trying not to anger them in any way. "Can I help you?" She asked as some of the others came over to her so she was not alone with the mares.

Smoothie now stood in the reeds alongside the river. She had been watching for a while now, and not much more had happened. Two mare stood up stream more, perhaps from the other larger herd. She was too nervous to come out from the tall reeds, with fear that they might stop her from approaching the small herd. She was unsure what to do. She was hungry, as there wasn't much food in her hiding spot, but fear was also strong as well.

Smoothie decided that she would have to come out sooner or later, and might as well try and get out now. She poked her head out of the reeds, and froze with fear. The two mares were coming down the bank, straight towards her and the little herds, and were sure to find her.

"Come, Tallulah," she murmured over her shoulder. "Let us go investigate. Stay close to me, and we will see what they are about."

Yukya let out a low, soft huff, the sound rumbling in her chest as she nudged Tallulah's neck with her muzzle. She felt the younger mare's deference and appreciated it, yet she nudged again, gently but firmly, encouraging Tallulah to lift her head and stand tall beside her rather than behind. It was a silent gesture, communicating that they stood as a united front, regardless of the respect Tallulah showed for her authority. Yukya's light eyes remained focused on the strangers, studying them with a clam, analytical gaze.

"It is a beautiful day, indeed," Yukya murmured, her voice a low, steady rumble that seemed to soothe the tension in the air. She mirrored the way Tallulah had glanced at the newcomers, her attention fixed on the smaller herd scattered in the distance. She flicked her long tail thoughtfully, the rhythmic motion cutting through the quiet of the meadow as she processed Tallulah's question. The threat level was hard to determine from this distance, and Yukya, ever the cautious leader, was not prone to rushing into judgment.

"As for them," Yukya said, motioning with a slight tilt of her head towards the outsiders, "I cannot say for certain if they are a threat. They seem... unorganized." She watched a small group of them, noting how they hung back, lacking the sharp, purposeful movement of a scouting party. She took a step closer to the edge of their own territory, her body language poised and confident.

"From what I can see, there are too many young ones," she continued, her gaze narrowing. "It seems mainly composed of foals and possible mothers, perhaps searching for water or shelter. Not the typical sight of a rival herd trying to take over." Yukya reasoned.

With a final, encouraging nudge to Tallulah's shoulder, Yukya started to move, walking with a slow, purposeful gait toward the smaller head. "Come,

Tallulah dipped her head, and spoke gently. "I'm doing fairly well, as the day is rather beautiful." She said, before continuing. "Do you think these outsiders pose a threat?" She said, glancing back at them, making sure to stand slightly behind her, not wanting to challenge Yukya. She had always admired her authority, and greatly respected her as an individual.

The now three year old Firefly watched as Willow raced towards the woods. I wonder what she is doing. She then turned to Silva.
"I would really like if we could start a foal herd! We could travel all over searching for foals to join! But I'm sad because I'm not really a foal anymore." She walked over to the stream and dipped her muzzle in the water. She waded in because it was a warn day. She got out and started to graze. Then there was a whinnie. It was Firefly's mother. She escaped the humans.

(Am I getting Ignored) Willow would say in her mind as she would start to walk towards the river to get a drink of water and she would sigh as she would drink water thinking about whether she wanted to leave the herd or stay with them but she couldn't make up her mind and then she would say that she is going on a run and she would break into a gallop and runs towards the forest to look for something that her parent's showed her when she was little

Yukya continued her stare at the smaller forming herd's way, her tail lashing with contemplation when a voice called. Looking over, Yukya's ears flipped back and she shifted on her hooves almost uncomfortably, the instinctive urge to protect her solitude warring with the need for social connection. But recognition dawned, and she snorted softly, the harsh lines in her eyes softening fractionally at the familiar face. Tallulah, a soft but energetic mare with a broad build, short legs, and a coat spotted manically, stood beside her, her head dipped in respect. "Good morning, Tallulah," Yukya greeted softly, her ears shifting back every now and then, hyper-aware of her surroundings. "How are you?"

Tallulah's presence was a stark contrast to Yukya's own tense, muted energy, and for a moment, it felt intrusive. Yet, Tallulah never pushed too hard, a fact Yukya appreciated deeply.

Fox walked away from the small group of horses she was with to go to the stream to roll on the rocks again. She blinked in surprise, seeing three unfamiliar horses there already, two of with where clearly from the herd. Deciding to keep going she walked to the stream tho kind of far from the other horses that where there. After rolling in the pebbles Fox decided that it might be a nice idea to stay and eat some of the water plants.

Tallulah grazed upon the deliciously green grass, her wispy tail flickering just slightly. She reached once more for a mouth full and then raised her head, snorting softly in pleasure as the warm sun kissed her back, keeping her warm. She looked around her at the other horses grazing around her as well, seeming to enjoy the weather. Though as she looked longer, she couldn't seem to find the herd's lead mare, Yukya. She tilted her head, confused. She was almost always with the herd, grazing or doing whatever activity we were doing.
She finished the last of her grass, and swallowed. She then started to walk to the near by stream, where she most likely would be. There weren't too many hiding spots in this wide, open area, so she had to be here.
She continued to slowly walk, still enjoying the sun, when she saw her leader, her striking white coat shining. She snorted and turned her pace to a trot, soon reaching her and stopping by her side. She dipped her head in respect before speaking.
"Good morning Yukya!" She said, but when she hadn't responded, she followed her gaze to see an odd group of horses not too far from our herd. She tilted her head, curiously. Were they harmful?

Lucifer was a striking young stallion. his coat shimmered in the sunlight seeming like he was glowing. his blue roan tabino coat rare in the plains. Lucifer had been hunted by rangers since he was a colt. he trusted no horse. because he believed he was a danger to everyone else. Lucifer found a stream. across the stream was a huge herd. lucifer lowered his head to drink weary of them. he could stand his ground against them if needed.

Smoothie stood and watched all the horses that were meeting, forming a small herd, from afar. She was so tempted to go and join them, but she didn't. She was worried that they to would leave her, like her last herd.
Smoothie, until just a few days before, had belonged to a large herd in the plains. But she was always being forgotten. Left out. No one seemed to remember her. And one day this proved to be true. The herd, while she was sleeping in the tall grass, had left. When she awoke, not one horse was there. She seemed them for a few days, before deciding she would find a new herd. She had seen the other, larger herd that was nearby, but decided they were to big and might not accept her.
And now she was here, watching this herd, trying to decide whether or not to approach them. Could she be brave enough and take a chance? I'll just wait she thought. I'll wait and see what happens.

Fox noticed a powerfully built mare by the creek. She had the distinct feeling that the mare was watching them and wasn't friendly or welcoming. Fox flicked her tail nervously and stepped a bit closer to the others in the small group.

Yukya snorted, flicking her tail as she stared down the smaller herd of mares appearing beside their bigger one. What were they up to? Yukya stalked over, keeping her eye on the small herd as she crept towards the gurgling creek, lowering her head slowly to lap at the cool water, letting the coolness soothe her parched throat.

She didn't dare take her gaze off the newcomers, not even to enjoy the refreshing water. Her ears flicked back and forth, listening for any signs of aggression from the strange mares, while her nostrils flared, tasting the scent of dust and fear-sweat on the breeze. The water felt good against her muzzle, but her muscles remained cooled and ready to strike if the herd dared show any sign of aggression on her territory. A low huff escaped her, a silent reminder that she was the one in command.

She lifted her dripping muzzle, dark eyes flashing, watching for any sign of weakness or challenge in the smaller group.

Firefly listened to Fox on her take on herds. "I like what you think and thanks!" She and the others grazed for a while when Fox started to the creek. Firefly brushed it off and went to the creek when Fox came back. She dipped her muzzle in the water and drank. She was a little hot so she went to stand in the water. Got into the creek enough where the water was just over her heels. She continued to drink. A loud winnie came from the creek. Firefly ran to their makeshift small herd and looked at her wound. "Ouch." She exclaimed. The others were looking at her trying to see what had happened. "I got bit by a water snake." She said itching the wound. It was bleeding but not bad enough that predators would smell it. Just enough for it to look like a bad wound. It was bad though. She heard stories from her mother about snakes biting horses and the horses getting poisoned. But her mother never specified what kind of snakes or where so she was assuming she was safe. She just needed to be aware of what was around her. She went back to grazing with the others. Not bothering about her wound. Except for the occasional going to the creek to wash it.

Fox looked over at Firefly after hearing what she had said having just woken up. She considered it. She wasn't sure is the large herd was friendly, but she wanted to be around other horses, so she decided to let the young filly know of her thots. Fox walked over to Firefly and Splash. "Good morning to you two, and happy birthday Firefly! My thous regarding herds is that I like being around other horses, however I do prefer smaller groups of them." As Fox started to graze next to Firefly she felt a pain coming from her shoulder. She glanced at it and relised that it was her scar hurting again so she decided to go to the creek to both drink some water and roll on the pebbles. A few days after Fox had run from the humans the part of her shoulder with the scar was hurting but when she rolled on smoth rocks it helped.

Firefly was wondering one thing though she couldn't figure it out, so she said it aloud, "Are we going to start our own little mini herd or are we going to join the one over there that actually is a herd. Well I'm not saying that this isn't a herd it's just not as big as that one." She said flicking her tail in the direction of the nearby herd grazing. Firefly was happy she was turning two years old today. She was watching the sunrise and chatting with the other horses around her attempting to get some apples for everyone. Though she did want to join a herd she was happy with the horses around her. Though the stallion was a little awkward because he didn't say much she admired him for that. How he seemed so calm and collected. But she didn't look up to him as much as she looked up to Splash. Splash was the kind of mare she wanted to be when she was full grown. She said this to Splash, "You know it's my birthday today. I'm turning two!" She stated this beaming. Happy to at least not be a year old. She didn't say it to them but she hoped that they could start their own herd. She liked everyone she already knew and didn't want to meet new horses mostly because she would be a little awkward around new horses especially a big group.

Firefly looked at each of the four horses with her. She had just realised that she had come up to a group of random horses she didn't even know for a day and she thought that they were her family. She didn't have a family anymore, not after she left them behind where the humans had kept her. She felt guilty about that so is that the reason she treats them like family or because she just wants a chance at survival? 'No' she said to herself, 'They are my new family. The ones I must take care of.' Big words for a little filly but Firefly isn't the kind of horse to give up easily. She was quite stubborn actually but the small makeshift herd hadn't seen that side of her since they had only known each other for barely a day. The sun was sinking and this filly was very tired from the events that day. She was falling asleep and she wouldn't stop herself from doing just that.
She had new dreams that she had never experienced before. A dark red roan tobiano her mother, Envy. There was a human a small one just merely over around four feet tall. Brushing her mother and riding her. 'Is Mother really letting a human get to know her?' She had many questions for the mare that had given her life. But will she ever get to see her again?
She awoke startled by someone. No something . . . things. What were they. She knew exactly what they were wolves. Hungry. Circling us. No there is no us. 'Where are the others?' She thought frantically. 'Did they leave me? Did they not think about if there were predators around. Then something was shaking her.
She woke up. It was just a nightmare. Nothing real. Splash woke her. The mare was caring. She was glad to know a horse like that. She was glad that a horse like that was her friend.

Kazil smiled at the horse who had given her affection. "My name is Kazil." Once their interaction was over, she trotted over near the stream, and bent her muzzle in, drinking the crisp water while listening to the horses around her. She smiled to herself, and raised her head, and looked around, happy for once. Everything seemed calm and serene. Something she had not felt in a very very log time.

The mare smiled, “ of course” after the filly had said thank you. I watched as the filly tried to rear up and grab one, a miss, again, another miss, but then the filly grabbed hold of apple and handed it out to her, she ate it happily and thanked her. When she asked the filly she had just been curious she had recognized the foal from somewhere and now she knows she’s from the mountains and she was also from the mountains “ hey what are the chances I come from the mountains too!!” She whinnied at the foal happy. But suddenly splash felt like she was being watched the mare looked around anxiously ears twitching. She spotted a big muscle looking mare without turning her head, she asked firefly “ who’s that mare over there?”
